Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

What evidence is there that this man was groomed? How and why did the relationship end? I remember hearing that someone, possibly the ex-lover, was selling letters for publication, which was why the relationship was made public, but that too may have been speculation.

I believe this young man is biding his time and WILL come forward with his own version of events and to the highest bidder.

Wyllow3 Mon 29-May-23 14:17:37

There are clearly a number of issues here, and I'm still waiting for some more clarity. The very toxic atmosphere on the show is unlikely to be caused by just one person.

I think if the young person was "groomed" it does matter what his experience was, and how things developed, but not for the public domain unless eventually charges are brought.

I share your caution, Casdon.

Yes JaneJudge, quite right. Or they have been led to believe they are in a relationship or in love.

JaneJudge Mon 29-May-23 14:09:01

I don't think it is unusual for the victim of a crime (whatever crime) to not want to make a statement or press charges. Abuse victims may not or will not always recognise abuse because they have been conditioned to think it is normal.

This young man appears to have been groomed by Schofield. Schofield says their sexual relationship was unwise but legal. Consensual sex at 16 is legal, providing there is no power imbalance, eg teacher-pupil.
We don’t have clear information on ‘legal’ aspects. We do have enough to conclude this young man was groomed. It’s nothing like a witch hunt, no comparison with the investigation triggered by Nick.

By the accounts he was at least 18, as it was after he started working for the show. I agree that he was groomed.
The element of this saga that strikes me as a witch-hunt is the making up of additional information around the circumstances which are not in the public domain yet, if they ever will be. It seems that Schofield’s actions have been the catalyst for a lot of hate and grudges to be aired, so it’s almost impossible to see the truth, It’s almost like the witch is dead, but let’s drown, burn and hang draw and quarter him as well. And sad to say there are some Gransnetters contributing to the spectacle.

on ITV news now. 1.45pm

I know that I’ve misspelled ‘losing’ wink

FannyCornforth Mon 29-May-23 13:21:27

If there isn’t something extremely serious behind it all, ITV are being very foolish and reckless by damaging their entire reputation; loosing swathes of viewers; and huge chunks of their advertising revenue.

As I mentioned up thread, many advertisers have already pulled out.

I don’t recall a previous TV scandal of a similar scale to this

Smileless2012 Mon 29-May-23 13:14:35

Oh yes, that too Galaxy.

Galaxy Mon 29-May-23 13:07:48

And that he then had a sexual relationship with him.

Smileless2012 Mon 29-May-23 13:02:34

People definitely knew what Nannashirlz? Knew what we know that PS met him when he was a minor, befriended him and helped him with his career? Because that's all we know unless and until evidence shows otherwise.

It has been said already eazybee and is worth saying again.

eazybee Mon 29-May-23 12:29:10

It has probably been said on here but this is reminiscent of the witch hunt initiated by completely unsubstantiated accusations from self-proclaimed 'survivors' against prominent men such as Edward Heath Harvey Proctor and Leon Brittan.

Philip Schofield's relationship, whilst immoral as he was married, was between two consenting adults and was not illegal. It is not for the presenters of a TV programme to make public their opinion of his actions in such a way that it feeds unpleasant speculation and innuendo until relevant information, if there is any, is released.

Blondiescot Mon 29-May-23 12:08:05

BlueBelle

No thanks Blondiscot I don’t get my news on social media which is full of gossip and inaccuracies
Like NanaDana I ll wait and see what facts come out

Oh, the irony...

Nannashirlz Mon 29-May-23 11:42:52

How many famous ppl have you met at school and give you a job on a few shows few years later and took you to loads of parties etc. when you’re got money you can hush hush things. Ppl definitely knew and all kept their mouths shut. Just wait for this kid to do his tell all and she was also with them so this I knew nothing doesn’t wash with me

Smileless2012 Mon 29-May-23 11:41:01

^Schofield and his ilk would continue to get away with their disgusting actions^shock. Is this supposed to be an example of a situation that hasn't turned into a witch hunt? angry

If PS is guilty of anything I too will judge him, but not until the facts are known.

Smileless2012 Mon 29-May-23 11:37:58

As far as I'm aware Annie no, he hasn't been accused and are some possibly jumping the gun here?

Could it be that the 'inappropriate' nature of the relationship is perhaps that this young man got his break because of his 'friendship' with PS, rather than the fact that they were involved in a consensual sexual relationship?

Anniebach Mon 29-May-23 11:19:21

Nothing on the news yet

Anniebach Mon 29-May-23 11:18:42

He has been accused? Sorry I didn’t know

Spinnaker Mon 29-May-23 11:16:15

Anniebach

Schofield’s ilk ?

Yes, ilk. As in those that do what he stands accused of and all those complicit in covering it up.

Anniebach Mon 29-May-23 11:08:57

Schofield’s ilk ?

Callistemon21 Mon 29-May-23 11:02:17

Spinnaker

Not really Franbern. I think most people can manage to think of more than one thing at a time. If you were to flip the situation and everyone just thought about the cost of living scandal then Schofield and his ilk would continue to get away with their disgusting actions.

Well said Spinnaker

Dr Ranj worked there for ten years and knew nothing of Schofield

Dr Ranj was talking about the culture of bullying from the 'top' at Itv daytime he was not talking about Schofield!

Perhaps it's Frizzell who needs to go too.
