Maybe people were afraid Annie. By all accounts he was very powerful at ITV and got all the best presenting jobs. Very friendly with Prince Charles (as was).

Phillip schofield
(937 Posts)Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .
I've just read that the lovely Doctor Ranj had spoken up a couple of years ago about the toxic culture on the show.
Interesting read. He'd been offered money to tell all but he didn't want to sell his story. He'd gone to the head of ITV but nothing was done
Sorry, it's in the Mail

Lawyers representing Schofield have confirmed they met when the boy was 15, but said the affair began after he started working at ITV, and the man’s lawyers have also confirmed this.
From ITV News.

Surprised no one has come forward about Schofield during the years he has been on tv, no hint of anything, no tell all to the press
Give it time Anniebach. I imagine one by one they'll all crawl out of the woodwork in an effort to cleanse themselves.

Spinakker thank you!
It’s because everyone knows exactly what is in the best selling UK newspaper, but only due to the fact that they have ‘seen it online’
I think the problem some people have with Schofield is that he has set himself up (or his advisors have set him up) as Mr Nice Guy/Mr Clean/ Mr Family Man. It is now emerging that he is probably none of these things. He has been hoodwinking his viewers for years as I'm sure many celebrities have. I would imagine he has made millions over the years. It gets people's backs up. He is a self confessed liar and cheat.

lemsip The Mail Online and The Daily Mail are different companies, I believe.
I don’t read the Mail online, but, I am, however, the only person on GN who buys The Daily Mail, and he does not write for them
Fanny how do you know that you're the only one on GN who buys the Daily Mail ?
Both fall under the same company but they print different stuff to capture the appropriate audience.

They are all part of Associated Newspapers.
I don’t care what you ‘have copied and pasted’; Dan Wootton does not write for The DM, and never has

The papers have branded Schofield a Jimmy Saville ?

How are people supposed to get justice in an atmosphere like we're seeing here Doodledog?
I don't think there has been anything posted on here that hasn't been in the papers, who will have had lawyers scrutinising every word.

Phillip Schofield's statement in full.
"I am making this statement via the Daily Mail to whom I have already apologised personally for misleading, through my lawyer who I also misled, about a story which they wanted to write about me a few days ago.
"The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them, and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning. I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.
"Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.
"When I chose to come out I did so entirely for my own wellbeing. Nobody 'forced' me out. Neither I nor anyone else, to my knowledge, has ever issued an injunction, super or otherwise, about my relationship with this colleague, he was never moved on or sacked by or because of me.
"In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven't been truthful about the relationship. But my recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning fuelled speculation and raised questions which have been impacting him, so for his sake it is important for me to be honest now.
"I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.
"I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me.
"I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it.
"To protect his privacy, I am not naming this individual and my deepest wish is that both he and his family can now move on with their lives free from further intrusion, and that this statement will enable them to do so.
"I ask the media now to respect their privacy. They have done nothing wrong, and I ask that their privacy should be respected."

it's laughable to think it's only in The Mail! It's across all new outlets and Bbc news sky news and twitter and The Independent!

I agree on safe-guarding issues too but that doesn't obliterate the problem of exactly when someone has what might be called adult agency. I suspect there is no simple answer to that problem.
I agree 1am64
JaneJudge my work involved training police and social workers interviewing children. Language, boundaries and clear understanding of the age/power issues essential. Remember when Andy Woodward was the first former footballer to talk about sexual abuse by coaches. I wonder if this is another light entertainment Me2 moment.
I've never felt comfortable about Macron's wife either but I have a very clear sense of what I feel are acceptable boundaries, most probably because I have to advocate for my own daughter who has a disability. Boundaries are important

NY Breaking is currently reporting an earthquake in Melbourne.
The site was not insecure when I went to it.
Dan Wootton is a well-known journalist. All I know is that my iPad came up with a malware message as soon as I followed the link Baggs, I don’t know why, but the security is good on Apple products usually.
I didn't follow a link, Casdon. I just searched for NY Breaking.
