Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

What / when is the more specific one please?

I think it’s next week. It is the one where TM is the focus of the meeting rather than ITV.

That vicars wife is just one of many who hid their sexuality from those around them, and tried to hide it from themselves by doing what was expected, getting married and having a family foxie sad.

I wish those things for PS unless he has committed a crime, and his family too as well as the young man involved.

Read an article about HW's 'toe-curling' speech. I loved the description of it as showing her to be 'Hollier than thou".

Haha! Love that! grin

In the mid 80's the wife of our local vicar had an affair with a young woman (20+ age gap) who had been their babysitter. She left her children and husband so they could live together. Lots of prurient gossip, much speculation as to blame etc, lots of sympathy for the abandoned family and an awful lot of hate aimed at the young woman, who in many people's opinion had lured the wife away. How times change! Thank goodness there was no social media to spread rumour and hate and the local press didn't get wind of the story. I knew the vicar's wife quite well, she was a kind caring woman who had not come to terms with her sexuality and until she met someone with whom she had a very strong mutual attraction, she thought her life was OK. I moved away and don't know what happened except that her relationship didn't last but neither did she go back to her husband. I hope she's happy and has a contented life and until I am told that PS has committed some terrible crime, I wish the same for him and his family.

Whatever is or was happening regarding Schofield and This Morning I do think that the publicity is disproportionate and is being used to cover up other issues. The government must be relishing the way that they’re out of the headlines. If it wasn’t for Schofield and the boat people the electorate might be scrutinising the track record of the government.

I’ve just remembered - it’s The Common’s Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee Meeting today

Do you know what time, Fanny? I would like to see it (although the more specific one will be more interesting) but my daughter is visiting today, so I don't think I'll get the chance.

I thought HW's little speech was toe curling. Asking the viewers if they're alright!!! Why wouldn't they be?

I think that the powers at ITV Towers thought it absolved This Morning, ITV and HW’s skin

A messy bob is on trend at the moment

Maybe Holly Willoughby should try a messy bob instead of the current mess.

I have to disagree with you Blossoming in my opinion HW always looks fabulous

Holly's sickly, saccharin, self important pronouncement was just daft. He did wrong, disappointed people and has been sacked. His career is in ruins. She can just get lost.

NanaDana and Oreo I agree with the both of you all this "there is more to this than meets the eye" and there is more to come out in the wash is just speculating on what may come next. There could be more but maybe we will not know as the other person in this may just want to keep quiet and keep his head down and carry on with his life. He is right as judging on all the
comments he will be crucified.
In regard of P.S. and H.W. they are just two people that think they are of greater importance than any one else. As for Holly and her statement on the show this morning I watched one minute of it and she sounded like she had swallowed ten spoons of sugar and was trying to come across as sweetness and light I have completely gone off her. For the last two years it has been Philip and Holly this and that she claimed he was her best friend and she knew everything about him and I don't believe a word from the pair of them.

I feel so sorry for P.Ss wife in all of this firstly when he came out as gay that was such a humiliation for her I can't imagine being married to someone for so long and having children with them and they suddenly want to announce they are gay.
It's disgraceful, and now she is getting another bucket of disgrace with what is happening now. It must be terrible living in her community and having all this going on if it was me I would leave the U.K. for a year until it all dies down . That poor woman. I shouldn't say poor I hope she has had a good lawyer and takes P.S for every penny she can.

I think we have to explore really difficult topics. When is having a relationship with a young person who you knew at 15 ok? We should as a society be able to talk about those issues.
Is what woody allan did ok? Should we not talk about that.
I am not comparing the two I just think if we dont talk about moral issues relating to power and young people we let them down.

I agree with you.

I really, really agree with this. When does an especially good relationship with a teacher or social worker or therapist- needful for the 15 year old - cross the boundary?

Its not enough to say, "touch" because although that is a no go boundary, emotional boundaries can be just as significant.

Having just come from a safeguarding meeting, in an organisation I volunteer for, which is national but nowhere near as high profile as ITV, it strikes me that ITV has been[not necessarily], derelict in it's safeguarding duties of the young man.

If all they did[and who am I to know for sure], was ask the young man and PS if anything went on, that does not seem robust enough a procedure. In my opinion.

I cant remember though, whether by the time the young man worked for ITV, what age he was by that time.

Sorry if this aspect has been discussed already earlier in the thread.

Nanadana your post is my post I couldn’t have said it better this thread is one of the most uncomfortable I ve read

Let’s just see, then shall we?

It will all be out in the wash soon.

And that’s my final word on this thread, until something changes (which it will)

Doubt v much you give due respect Doodledog on this matter. You and FannyCornforth have probably made up to 50% of posts on this thread acting as hanging judges.Anyone would think you both know PS personally and all that goes on in his life.
So he lied to tv bosses about a fling with a younger colleague who just happens to be male in this case.He did it to save his career as so many other men do when accused of having an affair as Anniebach says. There’s also jostling for top position between him and HW. The way social media and the papers are going on you’d think he was the most important person in the world and to some, the most evil as well! Ridiculous stuff.

That just about sums it all up for me too, Oreo. All this "there's far more to this than meets the eye" stuff. Maybe, maybe not. We just don't know, and in practical terms, very little in the way of "new", verifiable information has come out since the bare bones of this story first broke. Maybe it never will, if that's how both of those who were in that relationship want it to be, but will the mob leave them in peace? Not whilst there's still plenty of ongoing opportunity for prurient speculation, and whilst that's still selling newspapers. Yes, the tumbril trundles on, perhaps even picking up the odd additional passenger on the way, and the baying for blood doesn't appear to be diminishing .. yet. Most unpleasant...

Doodledog Mon 05-Jun-23 13:34:02

I've said as much as I want to, and if people are happy to believe what the mainstream media have to say, that's up to them. It doesn't affect me one way or the other.

And I do have respect for all posters. I see this as a place where people can share their opinions and knowledge, which is all I am doing. You may, or course take that or leave it - it's all the same to me smile
