Book Club: The Next Chapter

Oh dear I was going to see this with a group of friends at the weekend, we have been a little disappointed with the last few films we have been to see, the best bits seem to have all been in the trailers. We recently saw 80 for Brady which Jane Fonda was also in, that was ok.

I have just got back from seeing this and it was absolutely dire!

If I hadn’t gone with others I would have walked out after ten minutes. I now know how a small child feels at the beginning of a long journey and pleads, ‘Are we nearly there yet?’

By the end I felt angry that this film is aimed at the over sixty/seventy age group and all we need to be entertained is plastic Hollywood perfection, man hungry women, puerile humour without a shred of wit and a ridiculous plot.

The only good thing was the beautiful Italian scenery and there wasn’t much of that.

The trailers have done nothing to entice me to watch this.I like the odd easy to watch feel good film but this looks utter drivel.

However, Andy Garcia a bit short/chubby - brilliant.

Oh dear! I’m going to see this with a friend next week. We belong to a cinema goers group and quite frankly the woman who runs it seems to think we’re all one step away from the care home and picks some real stinkers (as far as I’m concerned)

This is definitely aimed at an elderly audience. But as you said, one step away from a care home. No understanding that a mature audience are as capable of appreciating cinema as 30 somethings.

I thought Jane Fonda was terrible in it. Steenburgen & Keaton not much better. Candice Bergen was better.
