Anyone remember Arthur Haynes?

It often happens that comedy we loved in the past is not so impressive when heard again now.
I did enjoy this episode of the Arthur Haynes radio show from 1962, tho.

My dad was a big fan. I didn’t think much to him as a child.

I think Nicholas Parsons was his stooge.

My Granny loved his humour, yes Nicholas Parsins was his stooge. Who was the female comedian with him?

I think it was Pat somebody.

I enjoyed him back in the day, up to his neck in muck and bullets.

I also remember Patricia Hayes and Rita Webb (aka Ratbag) being in it I think.

I watched him with my father and Ted Ray and Jimmy Edwards in Whako, my mother couldn't stand them and got cross as she couldn't see why we were laughing.

There are quite a few Arthur Haynes sketches on YouTube.
I don't remember him on Whacko though, just his own show (Was he the ITV Saturday night variety slot?)

I used to love the Arthur Haynes shows on TV. Always up to his neck in muck and bullets, he made a brilliant tramp.

I remember Artur Haynes also Whacko with Ted Ray and Jimmy Edwards. Ted Ray was a comedian but he could also play the violin. Ted Ray had a son, Andrew Ray was it? He was quite thin and pale. I used to listen to Workers Playtime on the radio with my mum and all the above were on that at times.

I had the impression Arthur Haynes wasn't very old when he died and, sure enough, Wikipedia told me he was 52 when he died of a heart attack.

Ted Ray had another son, Robin. He did lots of things, but I remember him mainly from the panel show, Face the Music.

Ted Ray’s sons were Robin and Andrew. Both actors, they both died when they were 64.

Arthur Haynes lived a couple of streets away from me (in the days when TV personalities lived in quite normal houses instead of mansions) I used to see him out shopping in his Rolls Royce.

I do remember him and I thought he was funny, I was a child I hasten to add. DH is still frequently 'up his neck' etc etc.

Yesterday I was trying to declutter the garage and I came across a film poster starring Arthur Haynes in Doctor in Clover. What a coincidence!

If anyone is interested I will list the names of the other actors.

That would be interesting FN. Nice to hear names from many years ago.
