I gave up on the second series but thought I would give series three a whirl. There isn’t one character who is appealing imo. So have given up again.

I just wish they’d give the original series a re-run! I watched the previous re-make series,,but must say I didn’t much care for it.

isn't the proper, original one, on talking pictures, channel 82 on freeview.

Salti Mon 19-Jun-23 22:15:54

They are showing the originals with Barry Foster on talking pictures (channel 82) on Sunday night. I've just watched one.

Thanks, salti and welbeck! I will find it.

I find the cast of the new series deeply unappealing. Such a miserable bunch. Yes Welbeck the original series is on Talking Pictures.

Thanks I’ll check out the original series which I really liked. I

I quite like the new Van der Valk. Marc Warren is a good actor even if he does look like a cross between Adam Faith and Sting.

I do agree that they all need to lighten up a bit though.

I watched the first series and wasn’t impressed, so didn’t watch the second. Started watching the new one, but fell asleep.

Agree that none of the characters seem at all pleasant, can’t warm to them.

Not keen on Marc Warren, always looks to be scowling.

Sunday night's episode was a corker. Bullet proof curtain round a hospital bed, street runners making no use of their skills to escape the police, pathologist discussing the case in detail in pub whilst drinking to excess. The original series was by far the best.

I really enjoyed it..

We recorded the new series and watched it last night. I did quite like it, but then I like Marc Warren.
But, can anyone tell me , who injected, into his leg, the man who was shot in the head? Did he do it himself?
The pathologist made no mention of a puncture wound, but lots about the bullet going into and through his head, and burying itself in the wall behind.
Did I fall asleep? Or should I watch it again?

I like Mark Warren, but I tend to think of him as a cheeky chappie type, like he was in Hustle. I don't think he suits this role so much. I did like the two new characters in this new series though. I never watched the original so don't feel nostalgic for that.
I think the new characters will improve this series so will continue watching.

The original series is on ITVX .

I enjoyed Sunday night's episode but there were a number of odd moments as D briefly points out. Nice easy Sunday night viewing.

Lovely, doesn’t stretch the brain, Sunday evening TV. We’ll watch the whole series.

I’m really enjoying it but again, I am a big Marc Warren fan, also enjoying Marnie McCoy (?) perfect Sunday night entertainment for me. And adore the rearrangement of the original Eye Level theme tune.
