I believe clapping between movements was the norm when composers such as Mozart and Vivaldi were active, and although it's not something I would do, I don't think it would bother me.

The padding in the studio between the music is something else.

Anyone watching the Vivaldi on BBC4?
Interesting improvisation and yes, still clapping between concertos😳

This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the season does it? 😂😢

I loved the clip of Sir Malcolm Sargent. Reminded me of my gran who was a huge fan.

I hope Clive Myrie being ironic when he referred to tonight’s “conductress”
Any more fares please?

I agree and what the hell were the audience doing clapping at the end of the first movement? The pained expressions between pianist and conductor said it all.

Well, thank you, Clive, for completely destroying the magic at the close of what was the most beautiful and breathtaking performance of the Grieg. Let us, please, savour the atmosphere and take in the audience appreciation and rapport between soloist, conductor and orchestra.

We don't need every minute filled by chatter and reference to Morecambe and Wise - again.

Thought I'd escaped the Wimbledon chit chat for once.

A lot of talking. Some of it informative, but we are here for the music, which so far has been wonderful

"Finlandia" made a brilliant start to the programme and the proms season.

merlotgran Fri 14-Jul-23 19:19:22

Finlandia and a G&T. What more could a girl want! 🥳

A wonderfully relaxing evening, perfect after the excitement of this afternoon's tennis!

I'll be joining you on the sofa tonight, merlotgran. I would love to go to some live ones as I did when I lived in London in the 60s, but as most of them are in the evenings, that's not possible. Wish they did a few matinee performances.

First night tonight at 7pm BBC2

I always look forward to the Proms and will watch as many as I can. A highlight of summer for me.
