Did anyone watch this two-parter on Channel 5?

It was about Robert Black, the serial killer who murdered several little girls 40 or so years ago.

I clearly remembered all the girls names and faces, and as a mother of a similar age daughter, marvelled how the parents managed to carry on with their lives after such horror.

The father of an early victim, Jennifer Cardy, now a widower, spoke so movingly of his loss and feelings, and his faith. It was humbling to hear.

This man attempted to snatch a girl very near to where I lived but the police didn’t connect it at the time. She was (if I remember correctly) 15 but was very petite and looked much younger. Due to being older she kicked up a real fuss and stuck her legs out onto the back of the van when he was trying to get her in and was screaming for help. This alerted people nearby and he aborted the kidnap and drove off. It really brought it home that these monsters are everywhere.

Whenever I read/hear about attempted grabs of children I think of him and wonder why police don’t devote more time and resources into finding those responsible instead of the cursory investigations that seem to suffice.

I didn’t watch this. DH used to fish The Tweed at Coldstrean and as we crossed the bridge, I always got a shiver thinking of Susan Maxwell, snatched as she returned from playing tennis.
I get the shivers going over Saddleworth Moor too - such a bleak, desolate place.

I remember it vividly. Those poor wee girls. He was a vile being.
