Did anyone else watch this last night?

I’ve always thought he was a revolting individual and could never understand why, despite his drink/drug related behaviour, his career was not just allowed but encouraged to advance. I’m not the least bit surprised that accusations of rape are now gathering force.

But… Is this a case of trial by media? There has been no police investigation as yet.

What are your thoughts?

Lexisgranny Sun 17-Sept-23 12:57:10

I have always thought it rather distasteful that it is possible to make a career and good money by being rude and obnoxious, although the popularity of those who do so says as much about their audiences as it does about them.

Kate1949 Sun 17-Sept-23 13:01:34

SueDonim It beggars belief.

Allsorts Sun 17-Sept-23 13:03:41

He has always seemed creepy to me, just don’t take to him. Dislike trial by media but truth will out.

FenellaFootstrap Sun 17-Sept-23 13:16:15

I see another MeToo movement coming.

Theexwife Sun 17-Sept-23 13:18:50

GrammarettoThere are wars, earthquakes, floods and melting glaciers or haven't you noticed these?

Comments like these are appearing on a few threads, if you feel this way then this forum is not for you, if you only want to write about disasters and issues that you feel worthy of discussing there are other forums.

M0nica Sun 17-Sept-23 13:21:55

Grammaretto congratulations in getting to September 2023 without hearing of Russell Brand, that is a real achievement.

I have ni iterest in stand -up comedy or comedians, but I have heard of Russell Brand because of all the other unacceptable things he has done which have hit the headlines. Like ringing Andrew Sachs(Manuel in Faulty Towers) during a radio programme on air and boasting that he had slept with his grand daughter - and that is just a starter.

Ok, he is innocent until proved guilty, but the accusations really come as no surprise. The surprise is that they didn't appear years ago and it doesn't involve more women, but of course that may change.

Grammaretto Sun 17-Sept-23 13:40:04

I was curious theexwife because, as I said, This person was mentioned in every news bulletin on Radio 4 since yesterday - and there were plenty.
Now people are slagging me off on here for not being more interested!
Beggar's belief.

Why are you on this thread, Grammaretto?

If you have no wish to discuss the subject and would prefer to focus on other world events you could find another one or start a thread of your own,

Grammaretto Sun 17-Sept-23 13:53:32

I beg your pardon Merlot. Since when have there been thread police?

I was on the thread out of curiosity because, as I have said, this person was being talked about and I like to be informed. Is that not allowed?

Then there’s no need for sneery comments like this:

I liked him when he first appeared about 25 years ago, I found him funny & a bit different, & he was ( still is ) very good looking.
I doubt he even remembers these allegations as he’s probably had 1000’s of women, so unless he admits it, it will be his word against theres.
Cliff Richard was accused of sexual harassment but nothing came of it. The accusations were made up, so you just never know.

HousePlantQueen Sun 17-Sept-23 14:01:46

Brand's more recent 'broadcasts' have been of the anti vac/great reset/Bill Gates type conspiracies, and his followers are now saying that these allegations of serious sexual assault have been made up to distract 'us' from his discoveries about big pharma and control by the World Bank and others. Sadly, a good friend of mine fell down this same rabbit hole and would not be persuaded otherwise. It is all 'well, they would say that, wouldn't they'.

Meanwhile, there seems to be little concern, let alone compassion if some of the comments on here are anything to go by, for his victims.

tickingbird Sun 17-Sept-23 14:21:54

I don’t understand his appeal to women, apart from fame but I was given his autobiography “My Wooky Book” I believe. It was an interesting read. He was brought up mainly by his mum and paternal gran and he was thoroughly spoilt and indulged. His dad was a womanising sleaze and took him to visit prostitutes and watch porn.

He was very open and honest regarding his drug taking and overly promiscuous behaviour.

I watched snippets of last night’s programme and won’t be drawn into trial by media but I will say CH 4 have a nerve as they indulged and covered up for him over the years so how they can do an exposé is hypocrisy at his finest.

Galaxy Sun 17-Sept-23 14:40:09

The programme was critical of channel 4 and those who indulged him. I am not sure it is hypocrisy if you turn the spotlight on your ow organisation.

M0nica Sun 17-Sept-23 14:47:28

Kadinsky I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have always considered Russell Brand to look like someone who has just seen a ghost, with wild staring eyes, quite frightening in fact.

NanKate Sun 17-Sept-23 14:51:22

I have detested RB since he left that message on Andrew Sachs phone.

Recently we had a speaker from OneCan who told us that RB was very generous to that charity, but it was not generally known. This surprised me.

However he could still be a predator.

I think this must be the end of his career. He has small children but I don’t know who his wife is.

From Wikipedia -

Since 2015, Brand has been in a relationship with Scottish blogger and former restaurateur Laura Gallacher, the sister of television presenter Kirsty Gallacher. Brand and Gallacher first dated in 2007, when Gallacher was 19 and Brand was 30[222] Their first daughter Mabel was born in November 2016.[223] Brand married Gallacher in Henley-on-Thames on 26 August 2017.[224] In July 2018, Brand and Gallacher had a second daughter named Peggy

Kate1949 Sun 17-Sept-23 15:01:30

His wife is the sister of Kirsty Gallagher who I believe is a presenter of some sort.

Andrew Tate, Elon Musk and GB News hosts rally round Russell Brand following allegations

What great supporters he has!

Wenmore Sun 17-Sept-23 15:05:54

One of the most enlightening truths revealed by the programme is how major institutions (and the powerful people within them) aided and abetted, accommodated and excused Brand's abhorrent, mysoginistic behaviour. This is one of the reasons why the victims (who in some cases did try to speak out earlier but were silenced) have only now had their stories told. No matter if he is innocent or guilty institutions must have more accountability and openness so women are not put at risk, fear speaking out and are brushed/warned off, leaving the men excused allowed to perpetuate this absolutely unacceptable behaviour.

Kandinsky Sun 17-Sept-23 15:09:34

What great supporters he has!

Well, if you’re going to have a supporter you could do worse than a billionaire.

Kate1949 Sun 17-Sept-23 15:24:49

There are thousands of messages of support on his YouTube channel. Many of his fans had been 'warning him' that the media were 'out to get him' for his outspoken videos/posts and that he shouldn't be surprised when something happens. We will see in due course I suppose.

Well yes on social media you will always find someone happy to reinforce those beliefs, no matter what those beliefs are.
