I’m just amazed how many women fall for men like Brand, Trump, Weinstein, Tate and all the other idiot abusers.

Dispatches - Russell Brand
(298 Posts)Did anyone else watch this last night?
I’ve always thought he was a revolting individual and could never understand why, despite his drink/drug related behaviour, his career was not just allowed but encouraged to advance. I’m not the least bit surprised that accusations of rape are now gathering force.
But… Is this a case of trial by media? There has been no police investigation as yet.
What are your thoughts?
I feel very sorry for him….Definitely trial by media. Always wonder why it takes these people so long to make such accusations.
‘I have given this more thought, and I do not think that allegations of rape, sexual assault and coercive behaviour should be the subject of a TV documentary.
Surely if Dispatches has/had enough evidence they should have taken it to the police as opposed to broadcasting it as prime time Saturday night entertainment
I am not a fan of Russell Brand, but in the U.K. you are innocent until proved guilty…’
This👏
He is sleazy. But then again we have had all this before in the 'news' (media/social media) about many celebs/high profile figures- and not all of it has been proven to be true- i sometimes wonder if its a 'thing' now to go ''ooh i slept with that person years ago, maybe i can try make a buck or two out of it or at least damage their career?"- so i think we will just have to wait & see what the police say about it.
Let’s all blame the victims shall we. Oh it must be the women wanting to make money ( none of them have) , not the fault of the predatory 30 year old celeb, must be the fault of the naive 16 year old girl, she was obviously asking for it etc. ( being sarcastic here in case anyone was wondering)
‘It’s Philip Schofield all over again and I bet there ll be more men called out now.
The press is way, way, way too powerful and someone is finished long before they are found guilty of anything.’
Agreed! Huw Edwards also comes to mind. He actually did nothing illegal but has been destroyed, professionally and personally, by the media!
Guilty or not guilty I don't know but what chance does he have of getting a fair trial now. In these sort of cases there should be no publicity till after the trial and then only if they are found guilty.
Not at all Coolcoco the ladies aren’t to blame, if guilty he’s the only one to blame, but it shouldn’t be trial by media that is all wrong You’re sarcasm wasn’t lost don’t worry
If guilty he needs whatever punishment is handed out these days by the CPS for historical rape/assault, but you can’t try someone through a tv programme or through the press that’s completely wrong
It used to be that names were withheld until the court case, now people are hung drawn and quarter long before it gets to court.
Some sections of the press are wiping the floor wth him.
here is a snippet of analysis by a solid reviewer, from his book,

I hate 'trial by media', I have no opinions on RB personally but if these women have cpmplaints then it should be directed to the police not sensationalised in the media.
What concerns me is that this may never get to trial because of the amount of information already 'out there'. Every one deserves a fair trial, and the possibility that this would not be the case so doesn't even get to court, means that if he is guilty, he'll get away with it.
He is for me the epitomy of what I call swamp monster men, creepy, Slimey, generally crude and disgusting, makes my skin creep, yukky dooooos type who are convinced them and their member is the ultimate gift for things female and each and every female should worship on their knees. Can't think of anything more disgusting.v he doesn't need to say anything his hidy language says it all and the filth that comes out of his and his erstwhile buddy's mouth.
It appears that most of us don't understand what people find amusing about him, but appealing to the lowest common denominator isn't a crime. I don't think that people should be subjected to trial by television, if there is substance in the accusations he will be charged by the police.
I read something in one of the broadsheets at the weekend which suggested that he was like many young people with performance careers and more money than sense. He misbehaved a lot when he was young but is now married and has settled down.
Time will tell whether these accusations are true.

That may well be true but he is still entitled to a fair trial which because of all the publicity he can no longer have.
Never have liked him, surprised he is described as a comedian, never thought of him as that. Someone mentioned his controlling behaviour. Is that regarded as sexual harassment as I worked with a few folk like that, male and female. Seems that a lot of high profile people are hitting the headlines for some kind of abuse, not so many working class seem to garner interest. Don't suppose money has anything to do with it.
As I said before, there is the behaviour which is in evidence on all his TV appearances, and there is the illegal behaviour he is being accused of. They are two different things.
Trial by media is because of his own very visible behaviour on TV. As far as this inappropriate behaviour goes he has condemned himself by his own words and actions.
Any illegal behaviour is another matter to be decided in court.
He is a narcissist and therefore his behaviour is typical. He has foreseen being outed eventually and prepared an alternative future with all his 'followers' How can anyone be taken in by any of it. Jonathan Ross is a huge bore and his vacuous chat shows are just dire.
I am no fan of Russell Brand, never have been. However I am not comfortable with this ongoing trial by media. As of this moment in time, there has not been one single report been made to the police, either in London or Los Angeles. All the victims are anonymous - and were played by actors in the documentary, accompanied by suitably mournful music. I found this to be extremely manipulative. Kevin Spacey's career was destroyed as a result of similar allegations - and he was found not guilty in a court of law. Brand is not even under investigation, let alone facing any charges at this stage. But of course the pile-on has started, his publisher has dropped him and no doubt other companies associated with him have followed suit. I have no idea whether or not these allegations are true or not, although I do have an issue with the amount of time that has lapsed since the alleged offences - between 10 and 17 years ago. Just as it would likely be impossible to prove he is guilty of these offences in a court of law, it is also now impossible for him to prove his innocence.
Sorry, should have said "alleged victims". A cabinet minister made that same mistake in a tv interview today, she at least should have known better.
To whoever said "they didn't know why the accusers took so long" I will say this. I was 15yrs old when I escaped a potential gang rape by 3 men that I knew. I didn't say anything because my parents would have blamed me for accepting a lift home. 2 years ago I was sexually assaulted at my retirement do by someone I had worked with.In full view of at least 15 people It took me a year to bring it to the police who believed me because I had photographic evidence. Yes some took photos of it happening. Of the 15 people who saw it only 3 were willing to step forward. It took me a year because I didn't "want to cause trouble!! Maybe Brands accusers felt the same.
In a way Brand is like Savile because both behaved like superstars, said what they liked, did what they like and even wrote about pervy stuff in their autobiographies. Nobody on TV ever stands up to them and says how they are behaving is not appropriate. It’s a bit like The Emperor’s New Clothes.
I will never forget how upset the actor Andrew Sachs was when Brand and Jonathan Ross rang him up to say vile things about his grand daughter. he was heartbroken.
We all know that for r* the innocent until proven guilty is a farce.

This is so. Public opinion for this kind of celebrity behaviour will finish you before you ever stand before a Jury. Within a year RG will be totally finished; as we write he is losing jobs and endorsements. I can't see his marriage lasting, because what decent woman would want herself or her daughters to be so tainted by him.
I am obviously in a minority here but I have watched his shows online and he could be very funny, particularly when he was telling self-deprecating jokes. He also seemed to have his heart in the right place regarding social issues, even if his brain wasn't always fully engaged. (I thought he was wrong to advise people not to vote, and deluded to believe that the world would be transformed by spiritual enlightenment.) Someone I know well is an ex-heroin addict and he said Brand talked a lot of sense about addiction.
So I was disappointed that he became another conspiracy theorist, although he has evidently built a considerable following who are very vocal in their support for him . They believe that he is being set up because he challenged those behind the (imaginary) plots.
However, his biggest flaw, in my opinion, was not his cultish opinions but his attitude to women. He has written about his very sleazy behaviour in his younger days, and admitted that it was sleazy, but still seemed to regard the women involved as disposable. He was probably sincere in declaring himself changed by his love for his wife and child, but still seemed amused by his own past behaviour. Some of it sounded quite predatory and even more off-putting than his increasingly right-wing conspiracy theories.
So these allegations don't seem totally surprising. By his own account, he appears to have been a man with a strong sense of entitlement involving sex. But should he be tried in the media in this way? I think not. Surely this is a matter for the police and the courts to decide, and all these tv programmes and newspaper articles won't help to get him a fair trial. The women making the allegations are also going to need a lot of support, as it can't be easy to see yourself vilified as a gold-digger and a liar by people who know nothing about you.
