Did anyone else watch this last night?

I’ve always thought he was a revolting individual and could never understand why, despite his drink/drug related behaviour, his career was not just allowed but encouraged to advance. I’m not the least bit surprised that accusations of rape are now gathering force.

But… Is this a case of trial by media? There has been no police investigation as yet.

What are your thoughts?

BlueBelle Mon 18-Sept-23 08:26:30

I would imagine most of the ‘sexual advances’ happened when he was under the influence of drugs and had no inhibitions
Stupid man he has a very good brain and could have done so much with his life without drugs

grandMattie Mon 18-Sept-23 08:17:56

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. Why indeed?

M0nica Mon 18-Sept-23 08:15:51

Glorianny Childhood is not destiny, while I agree RB's difficult childhood will not have helped. he is an intelligent man and is quite capable of realising that forcing your sexual attentions on women is not acceptable behaviour and in most jurisdictions is considered a crime.

That he seems to have chosen to ignore the law, relying on his fame and notoriety in a morally ambivalent industry to protect him, is the decision of a mature man who made a conscious decision.

"He's toast"

Afraid not. He hasn't been a part of main stream media for many years, instead putting out videos on other unregulated channels and has a large following. Of particular concern to me is the support from Elon Musk whose X/Twitter platform can shape the narrative. Yesterday "Russell Brand" wasn't even trending on X which I find hard to believe. I'm pausing my twitter activity while I see how this pans out.

I hope that some of his victims will find the courage to go to the police though I understand how difficult this will be for them.

All his talk about yoga and spirituality is BS - word has long been going round the yoga studios of LA that he was a total predator.

Oh am sure he is very damaged but not sure that helps those he has harmed, there was quite a lot of speculation about savile's childhood, I think there was a vague attempt at analysing him on a TV programme when he was alive, and it brought up a number of issues but obviously he was at the time being deceptive to put it mildly.

Glorianny Sun 17-Sept-23 22:47:16

He's written about watching porn at his dads. He was 16 when his dad provided him with a prostitute. Any wonder he's screwed up?

Callistemon21 Sun 17-Sept-23 22:37:03

😲

What? Was he trying to "make a man of him"?

Glorianny Sun 17-Sept-23 22:35:58

Brand has been sober for 20 years, before that his addictions were many. He was certainly using when these accusations were made. It doesn't excuse anything, it might explain much. Especially when linked with a father who took him to brothels as a teenager.

Callistemon21 Sun 17-Sept-23 22:06:01

I've never particularly watched him, am aware of him but, quite honestly, always assumed he was gay.

Never assume anything.

Galaxy Sun 17-Sept-23 21:03:59

He was sober in the examples I saw. And everyone was cheering him on. It might help if we were really clear that some behaviour is just foul. There was nothing illegal for example about the way he behaved to the newsreader but it was deeply unpleasant.

Glorianny Sun 17-Sept-23 20:50:52

I do wonder though what girls who get involved with drunken drug addicts think the relationship is going to be? I'm not trying to excuse male behaviour, but the link between drink, drug use, the loss of inhibition and assault is clear. So why don't women run a mile from these men? Do they think they can change them?
It would be good to see a study examining the reasons women choose such men. Perhaps then we could warn young women about them more clearly.

Sparklefizz Sun 17-Sept-23 20:27:33

Dannii Minogue worked with him 20 odd years ago and described him then as a "vile predator" according to the Press.

BlueBelle Sun 17-Sept-23 18:27:45

Entitled man, so many of them and they re all getting a shock

Chestnut Sun 17-Sept-23 17:57:45

It's too late to worry about trial by media. The DM is having an absolute feeding frenzy with several very gruesome articles. He is being hung out to dry big time.

However, it's all in the public domain already because everything has been filmed for TV or is in his book. I've just seen a video of him pulling his trousers down and sitting in his underpants on a woman's lap in the TV studio. So his vile behaviour is all on camera.

Amongst the many stories about him, not only did he phone Andrew Sachs about his granddaughter, he also told Rod Stewart on stage at an award ceremony, the same thing about his daughter.

I imagine Jonathan Ross will not sleep very well tonight. They were best buddies back in the day and some of the dirt might rub off onto him by association.

Galaxy Sun 17-Sept-23 16:37:11

Harassment of women that should say.

Galaxy Sun 17-Sept-23 16:36:35

There will be more to come including how it was enabled. Putting the criminal allegations aside for a moment, the misogyny and harassment of money was off the scale. We can see that with our own eyes. What on earth were people doing.

Iam64 Sun 17-Sept-23 16:35:09

His promiscuity and substance misuse may be an issue. His arrogance and narcissism may have him believing all his sexual activities were consensual. But I read he messaged one woman to apologise

BlueBelle Sun 17-Sept-23 16:31:04

I think he went through as he said a very promiscuous phase when this all seems to have happened he says they were all consensual and that fits because he believes they were, even if they weren’t, and that’s more of the male arrogance, just like the Spanish coach (he can’t believe or imagine any one would turn him down !!! )

I think he’s very good looking and a very interesting intelligent character but that doesn’t make him a good bloke and he’s obviously got weirder in his beliefs and if Andrew Tate is behind him say no more
I thought he had settled down since he married and had children I believe there’s another on the way and maybe he has but that doesn’t negate what he’s done in the past
One of the ladies went to the police the day it happened so that proves she believe she had been assaulted or raped I think it’s made more difficult because these women all seem to have been in a variety of on /off relationships with him so he would probably believe they were consensual He wasn’t just picking them up and having sex, they appear to be incidents within the various relationships or just after or that’s how he sees it.

I m sure it’ll become clearer along the way if the newspapers don’t run away with their own take of it all

Iam64 Sun 17-Sept-23 16:28:31

I haven’t seen the tv programme or read The Times, only seen summaries of the allegations and his denial.

I did consider the ‘trial by media’ issue as so far as I know, no complaints have yet been made to the police. I was beginning to conclude the publicity pre any possible police investigation was wrong.

Then, I remembered Jimmy Saville. His predatory, sexual behaviour was an open secret amongst tv people and journalists yet nothing was exposed in the press. The women who complained to different police forces were led to believe they were lone complainants. The police forces hadn’t shared information across forces. Saville, like Brand, denied any allegations.

I’m sure The Times and Channel 4 will have checked their sources and wouldn’t have published unless confident they weren’t going to lose any action Brand might take.

This is just my opinion of course

FenellaFootstrap Sun 17-Sept-23 16:10:11

He looks like a demonic cult guru.

Callistemon21 Sun 17-Sept-23 15:29:30

If Andrew Tate is voicing support for him, then that doesn't bode well, it's rather a kiss of death.

NanKate Sun 17-Sept-23 15:27:50

Thanks for the info about his wife.

He only lives about 8 miles from me 😳

Galaxy Sun 17-Sept-23 15:27:06

Well yes on social media you will always find someone happy to reinforce those beliefs, no matter what those beliefs are.

Callistemon21 Sun 17-Sept-23 15:25:37

Kandinsky

*What great supporters he has!*

Well, if you’re going to have a supporter you could do worse than a billionaire.

Even if he is rather creepy!

Kate1949 Sun 17-Sept-23 15:24:49

There are thousands of messages of support on his YouTube channel. Many of his fans had been 'warning him' that the media were 'out to get him' for his outspoken videos/posts and that he shouldn't be surprised when something happens. We will see in due course I suppose.
