Thank you growstuff. I was originally on exenitide but this year was changed to trulicity( dulaglutide). I am due a diabetic check soon so it will be interesting to see the impact of trulicity. I'm assuming that I will continue to be able to get it as appears not as specific for weight loss as the new popular ones. I also wondered if just the fact people assume it's not available means there are now stocks🤔. I have made a note of the drug you are on. I am overweight but trying hard to cut back on UPF and make better choices etc!

My friend’s GP wouldn’t prescribe it for her as he said she needed to address her psychological eating problems. The NHS paid for her to have a gastric bypass op which cost £10,000+ which she did lose weight with initially but gained most of it again.

So she went to a high street pharmacy online and got it with just a few clicks and a few fibs just like the reporter did.

It was very expensive and she lost a small amount but regained it. I think it cost her £150 each month.

It is very scary that even an anorexic 15 year old could buy it online after telling lies.

Glad to hear that your friend's GP wouldn't throw good money after bad. If she has £150 a month to spare, she might be better hiring a personal trainer.

Yes, I agree with you. It's scary that anybody can apparently buy this drug online. Shame on the drug companies selling it!

Dorsetcupcake Were you taking Byetta (exenatide)? It's supposed to reduce blood sugar and encourage weight loss?

If Trulicity doesn't work for you, you could ask if you could try an SGLT-2 inhibitor. I've been taking dapagliflozin for just over a year and it's done wonders for my blood sugar. I don't need to lose weight, but I've noticed I don't need to be quite so obsessive about what I eat.

My sister was taking Byetta and was told the same as you - that there's a shortage because people are being prescribed it because there isn't enough Ozempic to go around now it's become a "dieting" drug. She was changed to the same drug I take and is having better outcomes. She still needs to work at her diet and lifestyle changes though.

I have found myself both interested and at times bemused by! I am a type 2 diabetic and overweight. I have been on an injection that is part of this family of drugs but not quite the same. A few months ago my dose was increased and I have experienced some side affects,constipation and nausea plus a decrease in appetite. I haven't noticed a massive weight loss though.
About a m9nth ago I received a message from my surgery saying my medication would not be available until 2024 and a link to what steps I needed to take. When I clicked on the think I was quite taken aback. The first statement was that no harm would come from stopping the medication followed by dietary advice! I was quite angry that I was injecting myself weekly with a drug I felt was to reduce sugar levels but appeared to be purely for weight loss. A few weeks later when I ordered my repeat prescription the pharmacy said they would see if they could get Trulicity, which they did and haven't had a problem since. I then did a bit of deeper research and found that my variation is mainly for reducing blood sugars and not as good for weight loss,in fact some people put weight on!
I did watch the programme last night and found it terrifying that people would even think of ordering any medication randomly online😱.
For those that are still interested,even through legal channels I would advise caution.
The long term affects of this drug are not known,and what is known isn't particularly good. Apparently its only recommended to be used for a few years and in conjunction with nutritional and psychological support. It's not a quick fix,when you stop taking it your appetite, and the lost weight will return if you don't use strategies to prevent this.

Apart from the jabs they said something about 'dead fat' growing on the lower stomach, but I didn't catch what the word for it was. Anyone remember?

My brother needs this for his diabetes,but cannot get it due to the demand for weight loss.
He is now having to use a different injection that is having an impact on his health because of this.

A very disturbing programme. Who would want to take it after watching it? The possible side effects could be horrific and the freedom with which it can be obtained by anyone without seeing a GP is very worrying . Some people need it to control their diabetes but the drug is now in short supply because others who maybe just want to lose a few pounds are creating a shortage.

A family member, diabetic, was prescribed this drug by his GP. Carefully monitored, they did lose their body fat, and diabetes, type2, is now better controlled. The trouble with anything,is abuse, by people who don't really need it for health, but use it for faddy reasons. Another family member is coeliac, and the produce for their health survival is used by people who eat these products as a health fad, not because they have coeliac disease.

Oh my goodness, I started it two weeks ago and vomited constantly from about thirty minutes afterwards for two whole days and nights. Unable to drink a sip of water. Never, ever again.
