30 mins in a restaurant kitchen……BORING

Allsorts Tue 03-Oct-23 07:40:31

Found it manic and incomprehensible, switched off.

Barleysugar Mon 02-Oct-23 21:28:28

What a load of rubbish after all the hype it has had .

Gillycats Mon 02-Oct-23 20:52:57

I’m really enjoying it. It’s good to have something different to watch.

I watched the whole film on Film 4 the other night and I think it was excellent!
my brother was a head chef, and I know sometimes he got in terrible stressful situations..

I just heard on Must Watch that the film is on( I hope) catchup. I’ve wanted to see it for ages, ever since I listened to an interview with the director. Someone said on Must Watch that Boiling Point should be classed as a horror film, especially if you’ve worked in catering. My worst catering job was on an in flight catering conveyor belt at an airport. But they were all pretty stressful.

Phil Barantini and his Telegraph friend's idea of a commercial kitchen is not my idea of one. All that back chat and banter would never take place during service. The pressures of the working environment need a lot of concentration. I found it very uninteresting - too much meaningless kitchen activity and lacking storyline.

I loved it, I liked the way it was filmed and enjoyed the back stories with the different characters. I ended up watching two further episodes on I Player. I hadn’t seen the film but would like to watch it.

I thought the pilot film was boring, there's no chance that I would watch the series.

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 02-Oct-23 18:53:29

I like Stephen Graham in a lot of things (mostly the film Snatch) but this programme was pointless and boring to me.

JaneJudge Mon 02-Oct-23 18:42:49

well this has at least answered my 'am i going mad?' question. I have not watched the series but I was SURE I had seen it before in film on channel 4 (maybe?) and at least this thread has explained there was a pilot film - which was good iirc

Redhead56 Mon 02-Oct-23 17:58:05

I think if Stephen Graham is in something it's going to be good.

Maggiemaybe Mon 02-Oct-23 17:45:24

Good to see someone else loved it, Redhead. smile All the press reviews I’ve seen did too, so we’re not alone.

Redhead56 Mon 02-Oct-23 16:35:14

I watched them all and will be watching them again....

BlueBelle Mon 02-Oct-23 15:48:04

Ummm it ll have to change to be the one of the best shows of the year methinks

Urmstongran Mon 02-Oct-23 14:48:41

This, from today’s review in the Telegraph:

Director and executive producer Phil Barantini worked in a kitchen for 12 years, so take it from him that this is realistic. A Telegraph colleague who began his career in one of Marcus Wareing’s restaurants confirms that it is. It’s an exhausting watch, although the second episode does quieten things down (all four are available on iPlayer).

Sometimes we leave the kitchen to dip into the characters’ home lives, although happiness is in short supply: mental illness, anxiety and alcoholism all feature, and the low wages paid to kitchen porters leads two of them into trouble. And don’t expect the nervous tension to let up just because we’re away from the restaurant. Episode three features a car journey that will have you biting your nails to the skin.

Graham appears intermittently, a lonely figure brooding at home in his dressing gown and thinking wistfully of the career he has lost. But it’s a sign of Boiling Point’s quality that it can sideline Britain’s best actor and still prove to be one of the best shows of the year.“

Didn't really like it, in spite of the super talented Stephen Graham.

BlueBelle Mon 02-Oct-23 10:30:50

I watched because of Stephen Graham I ll keep going but I thought last night episode was dire and didn’t pull me in AT ALL
I have to disagree with the poster that spoke of the good acting I didn’t think it was that good hopefully it ll get better but so far 👎🏼

Urmstongran Mon 02-Oct-23 10:02:55

I’m a great fan of Stephen Graham. He lends such gravitas to any drama. He often plays a detective. Loved him in ‘Little Boy Blue’. The ‘Boiling Point’ film was excellent imo so much stress and tension - all about pressure - drug use, finances, relationships. It certainly wasn’t all about the reduction of a pan of jus!

I will give this series a go. Subtitles may be very helpful. They don’t bother me. Neither does swearing.

maddyone Mon 02-Oct-23 09:57:05

Wasn’t impressed.

Bella23 Mon 02-Oct-23 09:41:05

We watched ten minutes of the Film and decided not to watch last night. I know it is normal but I can't stand all the f ing and blinding and I needed the subtitles to hear the rest.

Redhead56 Mon 02-Oct-23 09:24:22

I thought it was brilliant the story line the supurb acting. It won't win any awards though decent programmes never do. Pathetic soap operas and bad acting seem to get the accolades these days.

We had a pub and restaurant for eight years back in the nineties so I know a fair bit about what goes on in a busy kitchen and I doubt a brigade that small would have coped with the number of covers even if they’d all had their heads down and actually worked! Mucking about, banter and general lack of concentration just wouldn’t have been allowed although I thank my lucky stars there were no mobile phones back in the day.

Boiling Point was boring and I had to rely on subtitles to know what was going on but then every workplace is boring if you’re just a spectator . I was going to say fly on the wall but hopefully they’d have a zapper!

We thought exactly the same, 20 mins in we switched channels.

Cabowich Mon 02-Oct-23 08:53:24

After the first 20-30 minutes I found myself getting more and more drawn in. Oh, the mother - I could have strangled her! I'll definitely watch it next week.

Visgir1 Mon 02-Oct-23 08:47:24

I thought it was okay.. Will follow it.

tanith Mon 02-Oct-23 08:42:21

I fell fast asleep I don’t think I even saw 10 minutes, woke up went to bed. I shan’t be watching it again.
