30 mins in a restaurant kitchen……BORING

Eloethan Tue 24-Oct-23 23:33:48

I thought the film was great, particularly as it was filmed all in one shot.

I wasn't sure about the series at first but I have really got into it. The last episode is stated to be the end of the series. I assume that doesn't mean for ever because there are so many story lines left hanging. I want to know what happens to them all - and whether the restaurant survives.

I m sticking with it but I m really not enjoying it it seems more and more mundane with les and less of a storyline

I haven’t seen the new series but I found the film very traumatic to watch

Dorrain Fri 06-Oct-23 08:03:20

I loved the movie, but then I like everything Stephen Graham is!

Just finished watching the four episodes, I really enjoyed it..

I started watching the film before the new series began. Sorry l switched the film off. I've recorded the series but won't bother watching any more . It was boring . I couldn't believe the things that they did and got away with.

I’ve watched all four episodes and love it. Best drama I’ve seen in ages. I loved the film as well

Shinamae Tue 03-Oct-23 20:24:31

Watch the film and just watching the second episode of the four and I am really enjoying it..
Being a recovering alcoholic myself, it brought me to tears when Andy went to his first AA meeting..

Persevered. Don't bother, disappointing ending. Not a lot of Stephen Graham. He was the only actor who drew me to it

I am banned from watching them as the woman in the lead role bullied my daughter at school ! They were always rivals in the drama classes !!!

Interesting comment! The female lead role is brilliant - very believable as a character.

Hope your daughter found her own fame Susieq!
😊

This, from today’s review in the Telegraph:

Director and executive producer Phil Barantini worked in a kitchen for 12 years, so take it from him that this is realistic. A Telegraph colleague who began his career in one of Marcus Wareing’s restaurants confirms that it is. It’s an exhausting watch, although the second episode does quieten things down (all four are available on iPlayer).

Sometimes we leave the kitchen to dip into the characters’ home lives, although happiness is in short supply: mental illness, anxiety and alcoholism all feature, and the low wages paid to kitchen porters leads two of them into trouble. And don’t expect the nervous tension to let up just because we’re away from the restaurant. Episode three features a car journey that will have you biting your nails to the skin.

Graham appears intermittently, a lonely figure brooding at home in his dressing gown and thinking wistfully of the career he has lost. But it’s a sign of Boiling Point’s quality that it can sideline Britain’s best actor and still prove to be one of the best shows of the year.“

THIS!
By episode 3 I was hooked!

We watched the film on Sunday and the 1st episode last night. Really enjoyed it.

I actually binged watched it all yesterday after watching the film which I'd recorded. I enjoyed it. Interesting to see the different characters develop with their own story each episode. If there was another series I'd watch.

Haven't watching the series yet but loved the film. Well worth watching.

I lasted about 15 minutes before switching off. Certainly needed the sub titles. Usually, I give dramas a chance. Does anyone remeber th stage play Arnold Wesker called The Kitchen?

Suzey Tue 03-Oct-23 13:19:08

Binged it ,it was awful too many personal problems with all of them, feels like the BBC had to cater for everyone suffering from something ,too much for me I felt drained not entertained at all

There was a lot of banter in kitchens I’ve worked in. The airport one was fascinating because it was such a mix of people. Young people filling in time before uni: students that had finished uni and were deciding what to do next. Housewives like me that could only work full time at weekends. The permanent staff were really scary. I was once accosted by one of them in the fridge room after I’d said to someone the day before that I’d never been called a ‘fart’ before. She followed me into the fridge and said, in a sinister way ‘so, you’ve never been called a fart before’. The permanent staff hated agency staff that were sometimes called in, because they were paid far more and hadn’t got a clue what they were doing. The big threat was being sent to the pot wash if you weren’t up to the conveyor belt work. It was a constant threat hanging over us. I remember saying to someone once, it can’t get worse than this to which he replied ‘ you could get sent to the pot wash’ (cue that Spanish Inquisition music). I once sliced my finger open when cutting up lettuce(still got the scar). No one was bothered about my poor finger, just the fact that I’d ruined a whole sink full of lettuce. As for the pub kitchen I worked in: all sorts of intrigues going on there..affairs etc.

I watched it, but some of it just didn't ring true to me. I didn't believe any of those people were actually cooking and serving meals. I thought it was simply a number of stories about things that have happened all hashed into one night to create more drama.

Shouldn’t they all be wearing those unflattering blue hairnets?

3nanny6 Tue 03-Oct-23 12:16:55

I watched the film that was on Saturday night it was all shouting and pressure. I did not see the ending delivering what it did and chef being a cocaine addict then most of the film made sense. It was good watching and watched on Sunday evening it was okay although just a bit boring.

I loved the film and have watched 2 episodes of the current series....
I'll stick with it, for me The Virtues with Stephen Graham was one of the best things I've watched on TV.

4allweknow Tue 03-Oct-23 11:59:52

Didn't see the film. Watched the 1st episode and felt exhausted by the end. The stress portrayed just what I thought working in a kitchen would be like. Think the episode was just giving an outline to the characters. Did find the accents along with mumbling difficult. Will give it another episode.

Soniah Tue 03-Oct-23 11:48:48

I watched the film and then the first episode on the same night and enjoyed both, looking forward to seeing where the characters go. Yes there was a bit too much of the kitchen but that gave thinking time
