New series began tonight. Need something warm and nice like this! The Wesley Binks story was a good start.

Aveline

It's a drama not a documentary. This story worked well.

It is only "relatively loosely based on the books".

We must always have a happy ending now 🙂

I know, but it was all rather twee!

The book:

Chapter 5
In Chapter 5, Herriot notices a policeman chasing a young street urchin, which reminds him of a boy back home. Many pranks are blamed on Wesley Binks, that young boy. One day, Wesley adopts a dog who has distemper, and takes on an actual job to pay Herriot for treatment. Sadly, the dog dies, bringing Wesley to tears. Then he goes right back to his life of mischief.

Can't sheep catch distemper from dogs?

I don't remember this from the books, but it is a long time since I read them.

The dog has drawn the short straw again. Gets over distemper just so he can spend the rest of his life tied up in the barn. 🤔

🤣🤣🤣
I would not let a sighthound within a mile of a flock of sheep!

MayBee70 Sat 07-Oct-23 21:33:08

You know the collie that was in the Specsavers ad. The one that got sheared by his owner? I met him at a local nature reserve. With his real owner/trainer obviously. I wasn’t watching the last bit of ACGAS. Surely the whippet wasn’t rounding up the sheep? Even if he wasn’t a pure bred whippet ( which he was) but had a bit of collie in him that would really be stretching it!

How did he become a sheepdog? Or did I need to go to Specsavers?

🤣🤣🤣

Loved it but like Maybee, Rosie and I thought that looked like a rather well-bred whippet - not a lurcher!

Spoiler Alert!!

How did he become a sheepdog? Or did I need to go to Specsavers?

Loved it as usual. I'd been defensive at first but now much prefer it to the original series. Wesley Binks was lovely. What a great wee actor. His facial expressions were perfect.

We are watching the first series of the original.
We missed it the first time, we couldn’t afford a tv back in the day!

I so enjoyed the previous series and have been saving this for tonight, lovelysmile

I am currently watching the original series with Christopher Timothy (on Drama) so am recording this new series to watch at a later date otherwise I will become very confused. I love both versions which equally have the feel good factor. If you watch the Yorkshire Vet, Christopher Timothy is the Narrator and has such a lovely voice.

I love this programme it’s so comforting and easy to watch.

Shelflife Fri 06-Oct-23 18:29:13

I enjoyed it, but like
wheniwasyourage, I was disappointed that we didn't have the signature tune we are familiar with.

MayBee70 Fri 06-Oct-23 17:43:14

I loved it. James did, however, say to the young boy that his whippet wasn’t pure whippet but I’m 99.9% certain the the doggie actor was pure whippet!

Smileless2012 Fri 06-Oct-23 17:43:00

And show the animation Wheniwasyourage? I missed that too hmm.

Wheniwasyourage Fri 06-Oct-23 17:40:03

Why didn’t they play the previous cheerful signature tune at the beginning of the episode?

Jaxjacky Fri 06-Oct-23 14:31:20

I enjoyed, MrJ Dd something else.

Not for me I'm afraid. Loved the original version, but for me this one is far too removed from the books, and the era it is representing. Mrs Hall is far to young!!

Whilst I agree with you on it being so removed from the books, I am able to enjoy it as a series in its own right.
