Beckham on Netflix

I haven't seen the Netflix offering, but like you Sparklefizz, I quite like Beckham. Anyone who can come from humble beginnings and be a failure at school, yet succeed at his craft and stick at it, has my vote. He seems to be family oriented too.

Having coffee with a friend this morning, she spoke very highly of the series - amd she doesn't even like football!

Sadly, the foul mouthed rant he had really went against him, so I think a lot of his recent behaviour has been collateral damage. He might get his Knighthood eventually, but not sure when.

Having watched two episodes I am enjoying it.
He seems a decent family orientated guy who has had to deal with a lot of real nastiness in his career

We watched this. Neither of us have any interest in football at all.

However I totally agree that David is a decent guy and an enjoying this series.

He was a brilliant player. And so hard working. A real team player, always creating things for other people as well as himself. Not prone to injury the way that Michael Owen was.

We watched 2 episodes last night and really enjoyed it, even though I am not a lover of football.

I am enjoying this series, felt for him for the hate he endured after the Argentinian match!

We have really enjoyed the series.

My opinion has changed over the years from thinking him as a bit of a light weight (I know less than nothing about football) to admiring his commitment to both his family and his chosen career.

I was ok about him but when he took money to be the ambassador for Qatar in the run up to the World Cup I turned against him. 400/500 migrant workers died building that infrastructure. On top of that there is their human rights record.
It’s not as if he needed the money.

Yes I agree and thought him wrong in that instant. But we all make silly mistakes in our lives.

But that doesn’t detract from his commitment.

Yes I agree and thought him wrong in that instant. But we all make silly mistakes in our lives.

Mistakes are something we might regret. He defends his position on taking the money.

I don’t think he made any foul mouthed rants did he? He just, when on the ground after a tackle, lifted his leg in a rather childish, petulant way. I’ve seen players do far worse than that and not get sent off.

I've just finished the last episode of Beckham and I really enjoyed it. I think he should get his knighthood - after all, people like Tom Jones and Rod Stewart were knighted and they made their mistakes and lived most of their lives abroad, not paying taxes in the UK.

I cried when he cried when he had to retire. He loves his family, I can see that Victoria had a lot to put up with due to the moves between countries for his career and having to uproot the children. I like him now that I've learnt more about him.

Just watched this and they’ve both gone up in my estimation. Victoria comes across as a loyal and supportive wife and a caring mother.

I agree merlotgran - they both went up in my estimation too after watching this.

I enjoyed it very much but I am minded that it was a promotional exercise by the Beckhams and showed a very positive picture of them. He should have addressed his Qatar decision and the reason for not doing so didn't impress.
