Those were the halcyon days of Corrie.
Calendargirl. talking of halcyon days, I watched some Corrie on YouTube from March 1979, and was struck by the difference between those days and the more recent ones, though it’s a long time since I saw any. Barbara Knox as Rita being attacked by Alan Bradley, newlyweds Mavis and Derek househunting, Bet Lynch abandoned by Alec, and Vera and Jack getting the stone cladding! Characters such as Bet, Jack and Vera, Derek and Mavis, Percy Sugden and Emily Bishop have never been bettered.
Also, it was strange to see smoking, Vera looking up Yellow Pages, Emily offering to write a cheque, and milk being delivered in bottles!
