DD1 text earlier to tell me Matthew Perry has died at 54.
She’d just finished his autobiography which I was going to borrow.
I’m sure a lot of us watched Friends, back in the day. RIP

TanaMa
have never watched friends and don’t know this actor
Your loss. Chandler Bing was one of the funniest characters ever to appear on tv.

Have never watched Friends and don't know this actor, however I find the amount of coverage of his death on radio, tv and other such media, strange considering the majority didn't even know the man himself. Obviously he was an addict, but why does that make him the subject of such coverage??

You may not know this actor but if you read the reader comments on the various articles about him in many newspapers you will find he was much admired. I wasn't a fan but I do think he faced his problems with courage and tenacity. He also did what he could to help others

Loved Friends. I believe Luke Perry was his brother. Both died young. RIP.

He was a recovering addict - no longer a user. People have their own demons and I find it distasteful people make judgements on others disasters after they have died. He has spent loads of his own money helping other addicts

TanaMa - who told you he was an addict ?

There aren't many celebrities I would call out "Oh No !" on hearing the news of a death, but Matthew Perry is one.

We loved Friends. The fact that he managed to carry on working in the series with everything he was going through is amazing. A brave and very funny man.

He was definitely my favourite Friends character. Although best known for his role as Chandler Bing (or Chanandler Bong even) he was also really good in the short lived “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”. I also liked him in a few episodes of The West Wing. I read recently that he’d finally beaten all his addiction problems.
RIP Matthew Perry 😢

Matthey Perry was superb in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Written by Aaron Sorkin, it's a terrific series (only one series, sadly) - quick witty writing and Matthew Perry's timing on delivery was excellent. I watched it all on YouTube - don't know if these are still available but it's a great watch. (I bought the series on DVD about a year ago).

Loved Friends in its heyday. Another 3 generational appreciation society here of what must be one of the very best of America's situation comedies that threw up the six talents of that show. Now our grandchildren have recently discovered the reruns.Very sad to read about Matthew Perry's untimely death.

RIP Chandler Bingflowers

I loved Friends - it was my 'up in the night can't sleep show'. So sorry about Matthew Perry - such a good actor but a troubled soul who fought many battles. RIP flowers

3 generations of our family have enjoyed friends too.

RIP

I didn’t often watch Friends, but having read the news and obituaries for MP, I am struck by the determination he must have had to fight his addictions. He was in and out of rehab - one of the stories I read said he had spent £9m on trying to get clean. When each one failed he tried again, and worked through - not only dealing with the disappointment of failure, but the addictions themselves, and the demons that caused them. That takes real strength of character. RIP.

I am so very sad today. Matthew Perry was my favourite Friend. RIP

So sad to hear Matthew Perry has died so young. He was wonderful in Friends. A lovely light comic touch which brought so much to the series. I do hope he was happy in recent years and managed to beat his demons.

It's so sad. I too still love Friends and all the different characters. Poor guy, he didn't manage to free himself. My lovely brother was the same.
RIP Chandler.

I have never watched Friends, (would have had to watch the dubbed German version) but I loved The Full Nine Yards. He certainly was a talented comedian.
