Enjoyed it but so many characters! Wasn't sure who the body on the ground was at the very end. But think Tosh and Ashley J will be a good pairing.

I agree about Tosh’s acting, grannydarkhair.

I didn’t recognise ‘Lexie’ straightaway, but did recognise her name in the cast, and then it was obvious. Just older.

‘Monarch Of The Glen’….. how time flies.

Richard Briers was awful in that, hopelessly miscast, nothing like a Scottish laird with his English accent.

Sorry BlueBelle but I think “Tosh” totally describes her acting 😁
And did anybody else recognise Lexie from Monarch of the Glen which I never watched any of when it was first shown. Dawn Steele is playing the murdered girl’s Mum. I binge watched MotG fairly recently, so instantly knew her face.

Oh Granny I don’t agree with you at all about Tosh I think she’s doing fine and a likeable character and we saw her ‘lost’ husband and baby at last
I am finding it a bit difficult to follow though, as different names come up I’m thinking who’s that ? Just my brain getting old I guess

I’ve really enjoyed Ashley Jensen in other programmes/series - Extras, Ugly Betty and Catastrophe in particular but don’t like her in this.
But not just her, I think a lot of the writing and acting in these three episodes has been very weak. Even stalwarts like Anne Louise Ross, Phyllis Logan and Jamie Sives all look like they phoned their performances in. As for Tosh, she can’t act her way out of the proverbial paper bag. The only change in her facial expression is how wide she opens her eyes.
The scenery is all that I’m enjoying. I spent a few days on Orkney earlier this year, loved it, hope to visit Shetland next.

The actor playing the Procurator Fiscal looks a lot like Vinnie Panesar in Eastenders.

I got confused with Phyllis Logan playing the matriarch. She played the same in Guilt which also starred Jamie Sives (DI Calder's ex).

Atqui

Is the “procurator fiscal “ the man in the suit in the office?

Yes, I think he used to be Julie Graham iyswim!

am also liking it with ashley jensen, she's a fine actress, but do miss doug henshall, but many series survive when a long term lead leaves.I also can't understand why we have a new procurator fiscal, loved julie graham in that role.

I liked her too in that role. Maybe she was busy elsewhere - she was just in the ITV drama Payback - and very good she was too!

Aveline Sun 12-Nov-23 16:19:30

To be honest I think it was to do with casting diversity. Can't have all white actors these days!

That's it! Thanks Curlywhirly.

I like Ashley Jensen and thought she fitted in quite well to the new series. Her and Tosh are good together, a sort of Scottish version of that American one with two female cops. (Oh no- senior moment!)

Cagney and Lacey?

I watched Dougie Henshall in something recently and he was the baddie. Something old maybe? I like him a lot as an actor.

^I thought Dougray Scott would have been a great replacement for Dougie^

James Bond??

Oh no, surely not!

I think Peter, bald head and glasses, who was at clergyman brother’s house is the killer?

I thought Dougray Scott would have been a great replacement for Dougie but maybe his heart wrenching performance in CRIME put him off another murder story .I'll give the series go and I love the accents much easier on the ear than some we have to listen to .

Crime.. Just watched the first series that's well worth seeing if you haven't seen it. There is a link between Shetland, and Crime - Jamie Sives plays two totally different parts!

Calendargirl Fri 10-Nov-23 17:33:49

Am I the only one to think that the new DI’s clergyman brother is a bit dodgy?

Is he the killer? He seemed to be close with the dead girl a while back.

And do you think that she (the new DI) was abused by their father in the past?

hmm

Silvergirl Fri 10-Nov-23 17:28:47

I love the accents and the beautiful scenery. I miss Perez but am quickly getting used to the new moany one.

Callistemon21 Fri 10-Nov-23 16:25:44

Last series I had to put on the subtitles but this time I can understand a lot of it without, although I still didn't catch a few things Ashley Jensen said. More her diction than the accent, I think.

I've always loved 'Shetland', the series and the books. I just accept that the series is different to the books, and has the added bonus of the scenery, music, and (had) Dougie Henshall. I quite enjoyed the first episode, haven't watched the second yet, but just hope that the new inspector isn't going to be as angst-ridden as Jimmy Perez was.

I was wondering about Tosh's baby and partner too - or maybe there was just enough going on in the first couple of episodes and they'll be resurrected when there is a need for Tosh to have some problems.
