There’s an interview with him on The Rest is Politics Leading. I haven’t listened to it yet as I have so many of them to catch up on.

He’s also a life-long fly fisherman and passionate against the pollution of the rivers, especially chalk streams.

A good heart.

Paul Merton was visibly moved.

We have recorded HIGNFY this week so I'll look forward to watching him.

I saw that and was quite overwhelmed by his comments. What a lovely man he is!

Thank you Damssk Rose for a personal view, I didn’t grow up in Derry but I had family over there and I was working at the Home Office in central London during a bombing campaign. It was very different to the situation in Gaza for sure but very much a time of anxiety and fear.

Having grown up in N Ireland during the troubles I agree 100% with Feargal Sharkey. Though I don’t think the life we led then was anything like as bad as what’s happening in the Middle East now …

The former ‘Undertones’ singer grew up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. Answering a question about partition in respect of the Gaza conflict he made the following statement, which I found so lovely and very moving. We need more Feargal Sharkeys.

^This is the 25th-anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. For 25 years, the people of Northern Ireland have been able to prosper and grow and blossom and have discovered this thing peace is a very delicate, beautiful little flower that needs nurturing and caressing and supporting.

i do wish the people of Gaza, and Palestine and Israel get to discover what 25 years of peace, prosperity and diplomacy and democracy looks like. and that those people can blossom. It’d be a much more confident and much brighter future for everyone involved.^
