merlotgran - what a great fish! grin

Sparklefizz Sat 25-Nov-23 11:53:05

Thanks for sharing all that behind the scenes info merlotgran. It's really interesting.

I must admit Dianne Buswell is not one of my favourite pros. When she puts on that "little girl" voice or is very over-excitable, I find it annoying.

Well done to your DGD for choosing a career which will be lasting and worthwhile.

merlotgran Sat 25-Nov-23 11:19:26

Oh sh*t! How on earth did those other pictures get in there? They have absolutely nothing to do with Strictly!!

GAH!!

merlotgran Sat 25-Nov-23 11:16:59

A bit more goss…

There isn’t much time between the end of the dancing and the results show. Everyone dashes to the loo and they offer bottles of water and biscuits. DD was dying for a cup of tea!!
As much as possible is recorded in the afternoon including all the introductions. It’s very noisy…The props team leave stuff everywhere especially the floor!
DD was curious to know how come the microphones don’t pick up the background noises when you watch it on the telly. They obviously have ways of editing it all out. There were loud drilling noises getting Layton’s pole in place.
Dianne Buswell is a bit of a diva. Every time there was a short break she announced she needed to go somewhere and they had to keep sending somebody to bring her back.
DD was walking back from the loo and spotted Anton walking towards her. She smiled and he gave her a cheery, ‘Alright?’
DGD was chatted up by a couple of BBC staff during a break. Her fledgling career in film and TV make up was scuppered by Covid even though she’d landed a job at Pinewood so she did a year’s teacher training and is now very happy at the local primary school. She admitted to a few pangs of regret but she’s a sensible girl and an already hugely competitive career was practically out of reach after Lockdown.
Only about 300 members of the audience are general public, the rest are family and friends of competitors, judges and the presenters plus celebs and previous competitors.
Dave Arch and Claudia do a lot of joking in between takes.
In the pic DD and DGD are sitting in front of the double pillar to the left of Craig.

I'd be very pleased if the shorter show tonight meant that there would be more dancing than chit chat but as there are now so few dancers left, it looks as if one hour could well be enough. I might even watch Dr Who!

Joseann Sat 25-Nov-23 10:01:32

Seeing as each dance is only 90 seconds there is certainly a lot of waffle! I haven't seen a lot of sob stories this year, I thought the contestants have been more articulate about their actual dancing.

Calendargirl Sat 25-Nov-23 09:54:16

Did I see that Strictly is only on for one hour tonight?

Crikey, what with all the sob story videos which will be out en masse, plus Claudia’s rabbiting, there will hardly be time for any proper dancing.

grin

Thank you merlotgran. It sounds like they had a fab day out! Can I ask do the competitors have much of a break between the end of Saturday night’s show and the start of the recording of the results show? Do they all leave and start again after a rest?

I’ll ask later on when DD is home from work. I suppose it’s the length of time that the voting is open so Tess, Claudia and the judges can change their clothes and try and look like they’ve had a good night’s sleep. 😂

It was time for Angela to go, she couldn't keep up with the other dancers at the beginning of the show and allowances had to be made. She did fanatically well, super fit, puts me to shame. I think her speech as amazing.
Think Nigel will be next, maybe Bobby.

Nanatoone Mon 20-Nov-23 07:13:50

So good to hear what goes on behind the scenes but Claudia’s screeching gets on my last nerve! All that shouting too, stop it you rowdy lot.

Calendargirl Mon 20-Nov-23 07:07:43

I was surprised when Kai first started dancing on Strictly and his age was revealed. He has a much older look, I imagined back then he was well in his 30’s! Think he might inherit Anton’s mantle of getting the older ladies.

I bet AR was secretly relieved to be leaving, it must have been very tiring taking part. And of course she made it to Blackpool!

TillyTrotter Mon 20-Nov-23 06:49:02

That’s so interesting merlotgran and thank you for telling us. It is good to get a bit of “inside information” as it were.

So glad your DD and DGD had a great time. 💃 🕺
It looked as if all the Celebs + partners did too, the Steeplechase ride Angela and Carlos went on looked fun, and Bobby and Dianne enjoyed the Rock factory.
The Tower Ballroom is just a glorious, elegant setting.
It’s great for Blackpool that Strictly goes to the town each year.

yes, it showed that on bbc 2 strictly. kai went in the Cryotherapy chamber too.

MerylStreep Sun 19-Nov-23 22:38:56

It’s reported that Angela Rippon has 2 Cryotherapy Chamber sessions a week plus deep tissue massages to keep fit.

honeyrose Sun 19-Nov-23 22:38:30

I too thought that Bobby looks like a very young Mick Jagger, especially with the straighter hair this evening. I think it must be the lips! Angela R was indeed very gracious in defeat and looked genuinely pleased when Bobby and Diane were getting their votes of confidence from The Judges. Kai was so emotional and he has a maturity about him at only 28, an ideal partner for AR. He also had a very runny nose! A very, very touching scene.

gillgran Sun 19-Nov-23 22:21:06

Thanks merlotgran, sounds like your DD & DGD had a great time.
I've wondered how they put the programme together.

Looking forward to next week's show.

merlotgran Sun 19-Nov-23 21:11:51

I won’t start another thread because there’s nothing really earth shattering but I’ve often wondered what the audience do all afternoon because they have to be in and phones handed over by 1.45.

It’s non stop full on filming. The opening dances for both nights are recorded as well as the guest act, Madness, which took three takes but sounded really good. The audience are a big part of it all.

DD and DGD had good seats just to our left of Craig in front of two pillars. It was next to the ‘Clauditorium’ where they all hang out while waiting for the results and is Very Noisy! Claudia was complaining that the white jump suit she was wearing was too tight, hot and itchy! 😂

Shirley’s reference to a leaf blower was because about six people dash on with leaf blowers in between dances to clear up any confetti. That’s why the celebs in the Clauditorium are encouraged to make a racket to hide the noise.

It’s non stop action. Everyone works really hard and they all look tired at the end especially Claudia. Tess is made up to Hollywood perfection and has an otherworldly look.

Everyone was really shocked that Bobby was in the Dance Off. Most people thought it would be Nigel.

They had an amazing time and well worth the six hour train journey. A lot of BBC staff were on their train this morning. Strictly practically takes over Blackpool while it’s there.

Charleygirl5 Sun 19-Nov-23 21:00:49

I think Kai was the perfect partner for Angela. I was shocked Bobby was in the dance-off- I also thought it would be Nigel. I think his days are numbered.

Millie22 Sun 19-Nov-23 20:41:51

Kai was a tad bit emotional tonight.

He really is lovely. I saw him earlier this year in his own show.

Callistemon21 Sun 19-Nov-23 20:20:32

merlotgran

Apparently Angela looks amazing and much younger than she does on the telly.

I think she's had a few tweaks, although she always did have good cheekbones which helps.

Sparklefizz Sun 19-Nov-23 20:10:37

No Joseann I thought Kai was older than 28. He doesn't look that young.

Sparklefizz Sun 19-Nov-23 20:10:00

Nigel will be out next.

Joseann Sun 19-Nov-23 20:09:54

Lovely words for Kai from Angela. I didn't realise he was only 28.
