We're ready for Blackpool !

Grandmabatty Sun 19-Nov-23 19:35:34

The other competitors were equally surprised

Grannynannywanny Sun 19-Nov-23 19:35:18

That was a surprise. Hopefully Angela R will join him and the judges surely couldn’t favour Angela?

Sparklefizz Sun 19-Nov-23 19:33:48

Bobby!! shock There's a surprise.

Nanatoone

I didn’t take the to the Layton dance, I thought it was more like a gymnastics display with no charisma. Angela S and Annabelle were fantastic in my opinion.

Aha, now you're getting very close Nanatoone. Layton's routine last night was based on vertical moves associated with pole dance/fitness. There were elements of both Pole Sport and Pole Art, the former showcases strength and flexibility, the latter is more creative and artistic. That's why someone said earlier it was getting a bit close to being sexy! Layton and Nikita used their bodies to move through 360 degrees.
(Don't ask me how I know all this, for a second time, but I am a bit of an expert!!)
Pole Sport is actually being considered as a sport in the Olympics. We already have the horizontal bars, the vertical pole is actually more difficult and could one day form part of the Gymnastics events.

Another one here who’d love to hear more about the Strictly experience merlotgran! If it’s not too much trouble perhaps you could post it on a new thread with a spoiler alert in the title if you are wary of posting details that some would prefer not to read?

Me too! I'd like to hear more details.

That's what I thought, more gymnastics than dance.

He seems like a lovely lad but he is a professional and I prefer a more traditional type of dance too.

I third hearing merlotgran on another thread with *spoiler alert as I went years ago and would love to hear how it is now. I’ll give a possible spoiler alert in that the magic went for some time afterwards, but the memory fades… gradually!

Are your lips 🤐?

Oh yes! There’s some interesting production stuff I’d like to share but not until after tonight.

Also some might not want to know how it’s done.

I'd love to hear more please, merlotgran, after tonight's programme. ( if others would rather not, I understand).

Looking forward to tonight's results.

I had earmarked all of my three votes to Annabel (such a beautiful, well orchestrated and moving performance) but then I held one back for Angela S. Fact is AT is my very least favourite dance but she has transformed my thinking on that and that takes some doing. What a great show.

NotSpaghetti Sun 19-Nov-23 15:28:53

Layton's back-story was very moving Lona - but wasn't sure how it linked to the "couples choice" dance tbh.

Lona Sun 19-Nov-23 13:14:21

I thought Angela S was fantastic doing the AT, she got all my votes.
Sick of the pussyfooting round Angela R, she needs to go. I've loved watching Annabel and Ellie and I was touched by Layton's story, he is very talented.

I really like Angela Rippon, but feel she has given all she can. She has done well but looks tired, I think it is time to leave now.
My favorite is Leyton and Nikita,I love their dancing and story telling and the fact they are raunchy. I will give him my vote.
People forget Nigel had a dance background, so has others, but people concentrate on Leyton. What would the show be like if they were all like Les.

merlotgran Sun 19-Nov-23 10:16:35

A very happy DD and DGD are on their way back home. Lots of the BBC production team on the same train. Everyone tired!

Apparently it’s the most amazing experience.

toscalily Sun 19-Nov-23 10:01:58

Angela R looks elegant, has done remarkably well for her age but cannot contribute much more to a dance competition, really is time for her to go. I did not enjoy Nigel's dance last night so much and would put him and Angela R in the dance off. I am getting the impression that Layton & Nikita are verging a little too close to the boundaries of good taste and what is acceptable for Saturday night family viewing. My vote went to Angela S, Ellie and Annabelle, the dances I enjoyed the most.

gma Sun 19-Nov-23 09:22:10

This must be the week that angela rip-off leaves strictly! She stands out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of the dancers! I fully appreciate her age and capabilities but enough is enough and she knows it!! Kai is brilliant but can’t carry angela any longer. Get real judges, nothing to chose between the remaining dancers as rhe scores prove! Let’s have a real dance-off not the angela circus!! It’s all been about her!

Sparklefizz Sun 19-Nov-23 09:20:33

I agree Sara ... and once Angela R has gone, I don't want any of the others to leave! As you say, what a dilemma.

Sara1954 Sun 19-Nov-23 09:11:48

To be fair they didn’t bang on about Angela’s ballroom past too much, but she’s really got to go tonight.
I felt really sorry for Nigel, he looked really deflated, hopefully he’ll survive another week, and then it’s anyone’s guess.
My money is still on Ellie, but after last night, Angela S has got to be a contender.
Annabelle was beautiful last night, she’s so graceful, and I enjoyed Bobby, what a dilemma.

Sparklefizz Sun 19-Nov-23 08:46:42

I've been rewatching some of the dances on YouTube and have noticed even more than last night how poor Angela R's dancing was in the group dance at the beginning, apart from sitting down at a table at the back for some of it. And at times she didn't seem to know where she was supposed to be and one of the other dancers grabbed her hand and led her to the side. Too many allowances have been made for her now.

I also rewatched Angela S's AT. They were fabulous and I reckon she might be the dark horse closer to the final.

DanniRae Sun 19-Nov-23 08:45:48

I voted for Ellie - Annabel - Angela S

Brilliant show ..... but was getting a bit tired of all the talk of Blackpool!

I hope Angela R goes tonight ..... I often wonder if a celebrity is finding it hard going that they (secretly) hope it's their turn to go!

Clawdy Sun 19-Nov-23 08:40:19

Loved Bobby's dance, he looked so like a young Mick Jagger!
