I haven’t watched this film since I saw it at the cinema when it first came out but realised it was on BBC iplayer. Found it as amazing as I did all those years ago and still think it’s the best film del Torro ever made. When I first saw it I watched all of del Torro’s back catalogue to see how his earlier films led to such a masterpiece. It must have been 16 years ago because I remember telling my daughter, who was pregnant at the time, not to watch it ( it’s very gory and she ignored me). I was on the edge of my seat at the end just as I was first time round and, yes, it made me cry again. Not for the squeamish, though.
