So pleased to have another Christmas Christie to watch-
Wed 27, Thur 28 9pm BBC1, horray! Murder Is Easy
Would love to watch And Then There Were None and The Pale Horse if they show those again.......

Aveline

There's one on channel 5 next week. I think it's 'An invitation to a murder'. I do love these dramas. Just hoping they're not too 'woke' versions if you know what I mean. True to the period they were written.

Well this one isn't very true to the period from what I've read. Script writer has rewritten it to suit her take on colonialism. No thanks, will watch the original.

Aveline Wed 27-Dec-23 20:14:43

Freya that's just what I was afraid they'd do. Trying to be too clever and woke. Wish they'd just present the story as it was written. Agatha Christie knew what she was doing.

Casdon Wed 27-Dec-23 20:21:21

With this story I’m not so sure Agatha Christie hit the nail on the head in the first place Aveline, it’s not one of her strong books. I’m going to give it a go though, there’s nothing else on I want to watch tonight and I expect it to be well shot and picturesque scenery at least.

Dreadfully dreary, turned over after half an hour.

Bored 😴

DH is persevering with it unfortunately.

Nice scenery.

merlotgran

Nice scenery.

Do you mean Dougie?

Slow start, but improved in the last twenty minutes. I don’t think it’s as atmospheric as ‘And Then There We’re None’ but then I don’t think the book was (caveat: long time since I read any Christie)

Mollygo Wed 27-Dec-23 23:49:11

Well it was interesting.

Calendargirl Thu 28-Dec-23 06:50:42

Fell asleep the last quarter of an hour, will have to re-watch.

Seemed very slow. Have seen other versions and read the (not very) good book, so know who dunnit.

Will watch second episode tonight.

Kandinsky Thu 28-Dec-23 07:14:13

Turned off after 20 minutes - absolutely awful.
Agatha Christie was off its time, leave it alone!
Bang the woke drum somewhere else.

Greyduster Thu 28-Dec-23 07:35:36

I’m afraid I thought the actor playing Fitzwilliam was dreadful. Some of his facial expressions were almost comical. Where did they find him??

Aveline Thu 28-Dec-23 07:44:33

Why couldn't the the writer of this tosh think up her own story rather than try to hitch hike on to Agatha Christie' s name to sell this tosh?

Sparklefizz Thu 28-Dec-23 08:18:59

Dreadful! Trying to be too woke. Turned it off.

Maremia Thu 28-Dec-23 08:59:47

Yes Aveline, love those 3 classic films, Evil Under the Sun, Death on the Nile and Murder on the Orient Express. Watched them in the cinema with my darling Mum.

TerriBull Thu 28-Dec-23 09:07:01

I haven't watched it yet, may do, but it doesn't sound too promising based on what I've read about it. I read all the Agatha Christie's years ago and loved them, they are of their time of course. I've enjoyed some of the older film versions of her more famous books, but have rarely seen a recent tv production I've liked.

luluaugust Thu 28-Dec-23 09:19:54

I think this is one of Agatha's that is better read than made into a film, however, what a right old mess they made of it. For a start by changing the date from pre war to 1954 the Dr's attitudes made no sense as he would have come under the NHS by then. The person whodunnit is not enough in evidence to give anyone a chance of guessing the serial killer!!
The lead actor unfortunately also makes no sense at that time. I have friends whose parent were in Colonial service and know exactly what the attitudes were, wrong as they may be thought now.
Please don't bother BBC if this is what you are going to give us.

M0nica Thu 28-Dec-23 09:52:51

Dull, far too self-conscious and, once again the BBC at its sanctimonious best - and just boring. I started to read a book half way through

👏👏👏

Callistemon21 Thu 28-Dec-23 10:36:00

Ps is it an adaptation or plagiarism?

Callistemon21 Thu 28-Dec-23 10:40:01

The only bit I found slightly interesting was seeing Dougie Henshall and Mark Bonnar standing together in their cricket whites - the two 'Dads' from Shetland.

It was (unintentionally?) hilarious!

maddyone Thu 28-Dec-23 11:22:32

Like Kandinsky we turned off after only fifteen minutes. It was absolutely dire. Totally boring. We watched something on iPlayer instead.

Casdon Thu 28-Dec-23 12:08:00

I must be the only one who quite enjoyed it, a glass of wine and lying on the sofa, it held my attention.

Maremia Thu 28-Dec-23 12:57:03

Hoping to watch it tonight. Intrigued by the mixed revues.

keepcalmandcavachon Thu 28-Dec-23 14:51:42

Me too Casdon, it was Baileys and a cuddly/snoring doggie for me!
