Just watched the Christmas special.

Feel like I have swallowed a whole bottle of golden syrup.

How many more times is Sister Monica Joan going to predict her end is nigh?

I loved Lucille, I thought she was a very interesting character. What a shame if she’s been written out.

It all seemed a bit silly how Lucille went home on her own. The scriptwriters probably wouldn’t have married her off if they’d known.

I am assuming the actress playing her wanted to leave the show?

Yes, I think she did want to leave, but the way that storyline was handled just seemed like lazy writing to me. I don't think Lucille would have treated Cyril in that way. Same with the whole Matthew/Trixie storyline too - it just doesn't ring true.

This lady. I've been saying (at home) for a few weeks that she and Cyril are getting close 😊
I'd actually forgotten that his wife is just overseas and presumably they're not divorced?? 😬

I think Cyril and the other newly qualified midwife, not Nurse Highland, fancy each other.

Perhaps Lucille will have to be killed off (sorry to be blunt), as his religion wouldn’t allow him to have an affair probably.

I thought that too!

I think he's still married.
It's a pity they wrote Lucille out, it all seemed rather implausible too.

Joseann Tue 27-Feb-24 15:28:12

I'd like to see Cyril get together with someone, or is he still married? He is always so kind and supportive.

RCTina Tue 27-Feb-24 15:23:57

Actually, they decided to write Matthew out, Olly Rix did not want to leave.

SueDonim Mon 26-Feb-24 13:15:07

I enjoyed last night’s episode - lots going on! I agree with V3ra, I think the nitrazepam is going to be a problem for Trixie soon. Is she the last of the non-religious midwives from the first series?

The turnips story made me laugh and Alison’s story brought tears to my eyes. Midwife Highland’s story is going to be interesting.

V3ra Mon 26-Feb-24 11:39:39

Looks like Trixie will be on her way back to AA.

I think we're going to see a storyline about her becoming addicted to the nitrazepam she's just been prescribed ☹️

I think they had to juggle the script around when they found the actor playing Matthew wanted to leave it can’t have been the way they planned things to go. It is just like the Soaps who sometimes have to make rapid changes that don’t make sense. Hopefully Trixie will settle down a bit.

Joseann Mon 26-Feb-24 09:00:34

I wondered about little Jonty too.
I seriously think Trixie needs writing out, and that the new midwife should take her place because she acts well.

Primrose53 Mon 26-Feb-24 08:49:06

There are coach trips to the Call The Midwife area and you are guided by a “midwife”.

Calendargirl Mon 26-Feb-24 08:43:29

Matthew always looks half asleep to me. Perhaps being in New York will wake him up. Who will look after Jonty over there? Is the sacked nanny going with them?

Apparently you can do walking tours round the set. Interesting.
It always makes me smile when in Port Isaac, how many visitors do the Doc Martin walk round the village.

SueDonim Wed 07-Feb-24 14:14:29

It’s filmed at The Historic Dockyard, Chatham, in Kent. smile

I agree about Matthew hiding his financial woes. And isn’t his mum loaded anyway?

I read on the front of a newspaper that Trixie and Matthew are ‘an item’ in real life now.

Joseann Wed 07-Feb-24 13:25:42

I think they have a specially reconstructed set outside London somewhere, but I know it's not at Elstree?

gillgran Wed 07-Feb-24 13:21:19

I know the programme is set in Poplar / Tower Hamlets, but where is it recorded?
I think the writer & the actor/doctor live in Cambridge.
In last weeks episode they went on a day trip to the seaside on a "Dewsway" coach, (Dews buses still based nearby).

Calendargirl Mon 05-Feb-24 10:19:14

Well done Trixie on passing her test so quickly, then being confident enough to drive her husband’s big posh car straightaway. Mind you, confidence never seems in short supply with her.

Why on earth doesn’t Matthew just come out and say he is in financial difficulties, and simply can’t afford the flat in the Barbican, the sporty car she wants, the expensive nursery school, the posh sofa……?

Clawdy Tue 30-Jan-24 23:07:20

Jonty looked like a baby, not a toddler - surely he's at least two?

woodenspoon Mon 29-Jan-24 21:57:07

It’s a shame Vera has ended. I liked that.

Anniebach Mon 29-Jan-24 21:45:49

Me too, it’s fiction

kittylester Mon 29-Jan-24 21:30:33

Me too, gg, and I just take it as it comes.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 29-Jan-24 21:09:12

I still find it easy viewing for a Sunday evening.
