Has anybody watched the 2nd series of 'The Traitors' on BBC1 / iPlayer tonight?

I really, really liked the 1st series last year - so much so that I also watched the US & Australian versions on iPlayer to ease withdrawal symptoms when it finished šŸ˜‚.

Another obsession is about to start I think.......

Did you actually get to stay in that castle with all the contestants, or were you whisked off to a hotel at the end of the "None of us stayed in the castle. None of us. They all stayed in the airport hotel in the Inverness airport [laughs]. How glamorous—you come to Scotland, and you stay in the Inverness airport hotel. And I stayed in a little house in Inverness. But I had a room in the castle where I would get made up and dressed. It had a huge bed in it. So I did actually sleep quite often, but not overnight."

They had me fooled!

I’ve just started binge watching the second Australian series, thought the blue team boat carry-on was hilarious. And whilst I know there’s very heavy editing carried out on these shows to show certain situations, I’ve already been annoyed by a few extremely unlikeable characters.

I was laughing out loud at the boat task, one of the funniest episodes ever in any Traitor show. Enjoy the series its an eye opener in manipulation.

There was an interesting question posed on ā€œMore or Lessā€ R4 this morning about whether the contestants were more successful at eliminating Traitors at the round table, or would they do just as well drawing lots. ie skill or chance?
For the last U.K. Traitors show, taking odds into account, the Faithfuls were marginally more successful than random….BUT difference too small to prove.

Oh my goodness, I am watching the second Australian series, and that Sam really is a piece of work. I couldn't stand the person who won the first Australian series either.

Its been so good we binged watched to the end over the last two nights.

I was interested to notice that in the USA version the contestants had bedrooms in the castle, which seems much more practical.

I did not realise there were two Australian series so am working my way through series one, might have to have a break before series two or it will all become too repetitive.

NotSpaghetti Wed 31-Jan-24 10:39:25

Only the last 3 and crew knew the result. Apparently.

Family member involved in it. I've just discovered it was filmed in the summer and they had to sign a non disclose order to keep the winner a secret.

As there are about 200 crew involved, plus the contestants, that must be quite a challenge. I guess the crew realise their jobs are at risk if the name of the winner gets out. It will ruin the whole series and cost the BBC thousands.

It must be difficult for the contestants when they return to their families, who will be gasping to know whether they won! None of them can say a word to anyone, so presumably the money doesn't get released to the winner until now.

I've watched and enjoyed, but hope they don't overdo it and flog it to death!
I'm very lucky as I used to live in Ardross and now live not too far away from it. I've friends who work and worked at the castle so have been in it several times. It's beautiful and set in beautiful surroundings. The ideal setting for The Traitors, excellent choice of venue and Claudia is an excellent presenter, certainly makes it a great show.

BlueBelle Tue 30-Jan-24 22:57:24

Its your choice that you don’t watch it Grandmagrewit but why would you want to read these posts if it’s not for you I find that strange
I too thought Claudia looked lovely in most of her clothes
Although the show is around deceiving and quick thinking it also showed a lot of love and loyalty and friendship and when the contestants were out of character they mostly came across as nice people and after all it is a game, even board games that kids play will have some lying or deceiving in them

Avia Tue 30-Jan-24 22:25:32

I love it, the whole family watch it, makes for great light hearted discussions at supper time

The ā€œEaster Eggā€ comment has nothing to do with Easter, it’s the phrase used to describe a hidden message of some sort within a film, play, etc.
I loved most of Claudia’s clothes, especially the green toned ones. I don’t think she suited the pink sweater she wore near the end though, it really did nothing for her skin colour.
Whilst I’m ambivalent about the ethos of the show, as I agree that it appears to celebrate lying, it is just a game show and I think Harry deserved to win as he ā€œplayed the gameā€ better than any of the rest.
Like others have said, I don’t want a celebrity/part celebrity version of Traitors, part of the entertainment comes from knowing that the players are unknown and not the same old faces one sees all too often on the TV.

Irismarle Tue 30-Jan-24 15:56:44

Apparently Harry’s girlfriend is a TV presenter, and I would guess he applied for Traitors in the hope the exposure would lead to offers of this kind of work which would be much better paid than the army. However, I will be interested to see if his skills in lying and manipulating others may backfire and he may now have the wrong image. Although Mollie lost out in the final, she may win in the long run for coming across as a loyal and honest person. I think she may get more offers of work in future TV.

I think that the people recruited to this show are pretty ordinary. They seem to cover the age and ethnicity range. Nobody was particularly clever despite all the chat about their 'strategies' etc.
Harry just struck lucky with his baby face and the besotted Mollie who even at the last minute could have won.

I like the fact that the contestants are a range of ordinary people and not celebs.
For that reason I prefer watching ordinary people on Gogglebox rather than celebs, the ordinary people are so much more interesting and wittier than the celebs ( there are a few exceptions mind you. )😬

NotSpaghetti Tue 30-Jan-24 13:38:31

I loved her clothes too Susieq62 and hope some of these small Scottish companies do well out of it.

Susieq62 Tue 30-Jan-24 13:20:09

Watched it to the finish, didn’t see series one but hooked on this series. Very clever game and a good insight to human behaviour in some ways.
Loved Claudia’s clothes !!! Plus the scenery was stunning. Not sure the winner deserved the money but played a clever game

Way back at the beginning of the month, the OP asked if anyone would be watching The Traitors, so why the unnecessarily nasty comments to a Gransnetter who has said "no I won't", and given their reasons?
Allsorts, I do actually share your impression about the programme appearing to promote lying and deceiving as entertainment and, for that reason, I too have chosen not to watch it. I don't agree with Chestnut that "most TV dramas are about murder" but I choose not to watch programmes that dramatise graphic violence, paedophilia and rape - we already hear about so much violence in real life. And how about those lying, cheating and deceitful politicians - many Gransnetters are very vocal about them! I'm happy to accept that others find The Traitors entertaining but please don't denigrate those that don't share your enthusiasm.

That's not what the OP asked.

Nannashirlz Tue 30-Jan-24 13:03:42

I didn’t watch first season but my daughter inlaw stopped off on her way home from a meeting I’m cheaper than a hotel lol she was shocked I didn’t watch it but she watched it when she was here I thought it was good since then I’ve watched both of ours and other countries too. For the ppl that said not watch I didn’t watch it for the same reasons but it’s not what you think it is about

It is the fact that the contestants are pretty ordinary that makes the show so watchable. I hope they don't do a UK celebrity version though because I will be biased about the people I already know. I watched the American one which seemed to have reality show celebs but as I didn't know any of them it made no difference to my enjoyment of it. Alan Cummings is very entertaining as the presenter.
