Dixon Of Dock Green.

This has started on Talking Pictures at 7.20pm on Saturday nights. Have read about it, not sure if on GN, but couldn’t find another thread.

Takes you back. Andy Crawford and Mary Dixon, meant to be a young engaged couple, he looks more like 40 with his clothes and Elvis quiff. She bustling about in a frilly apron getting Dad’s (George Dixon’s) dinner when he comes in off shift.

And the leisurely police station, not much going on but a couple of sergeants and a constable behind the desk, ready to deal with poison pen letters and lost dogs no doubt.

But it was 1956!

Halcyon days.

Evening All.
Andy Crawford I thought was so good looking. Loved the music. I will try and catch it. Those days are long gone. The police trusted although my grandfather always said "Never tell the Met when you go on holiday" so there must have been dodgy police even then.

But not Dixon!

I have to admit to seeing it first time round, even then Jack Warners age was remarked on. Looking at old family photos people did look much older but they hadn’t had the benefit of the NHS growing up. I will have a look.

Reminds me so much of sitting down with my parents on Saturday nights to watch Dixon. They loved it.

6pm on a Saturday. Dad insisted on watching it every week. “Evning all.” Then along came ITV with Bonanza in the 60’s which all my friends watched but I was stuck, most weeks, with George Dixon rather than Little Jo. No comparison!

Luckily for me my Mum loved Bonanza so Dad would sit and read the paper. I can still sing the theme song!

We didn’t have a TV so so watched it whenever we stayed with my grandparents. Good family viewing and no need for a watershed.
