ONE DAY on Netflix

Anyone watching One Day? I read the book by David Nicholls back in 2009 and enjoyed it so much that I deliberately avoided the film version starring Anne Hathaway trying to do a Yorkshire accent.

But ... I decided to give the new version on NF a try, and it is lovely and beautifully acted and now that I'm getting close to the end I am starting to feel bereft already.

Just a tip - have your hankie ready!

Maybee70 It really annoyed me when Roma won the Oscar for best film but you had to subscribe to Netflix to watch it.

I remember that as it didn't come to the cinemas here. It's rare to find a foreign language film on the the big screen. I didn't have Netflix but a friend did so I went to her house to watch it.

I hope you have managed to see Roma now but if you stil haven't, JustWatch says it's also available on AppleTV.

Watched the old film last night. Thoroughly enjoyable. What a contrast to the life we led as students. I'm certainly going to read the book and watch the new version.

I like to binge watch everything if i can as ive no patience to wait weeks for the end of things..i might look out for this..I began watching something months go but it was so slow and getting ridiculous so i left it.Cant remember now but i think it was called YOU? or similar...🤔😐 I watched whole of Too Good To Be True last night as i usually like Kara Tointon's stuff. It was all right but a bit of a predictable ending i thought.

It's been a week now and I am still thinking about it.

Yes - it is a series that stays with you, DH and I found ourselves talking about it the following day.

I recovered from the shock of the physical similarity of the two actors to my GS and GF - their characters are quite different - thank goodness!

I noticed this coming up on Netflix and always skipped over it.
Now, a definite to start watching this evening.
Thank you for the heads up Sparklefizz

I’ve just tried to reserve the audiobook from our library - it’s available in July 2026!! 😳😂

It's free to Audible members.

It might be worth checking to see if it's available if you were to take a free 30 day trial.

I haven't watched it yet, but I know Ambika was heart wrenchingly good in This Is Going To Hurt.

Bridie22 Sat 17-Feb-24 22:39:14

Brilliant series, made me quite nostalgic.

Just finished watching it - binge watched it all - so very sad - reminds me of so many things in the past! No I’m too old to rekindle the past - excellent series

Literally just finished it 10 minutes ago. The intensity between them is wonderful. So beautifully acted. Loved every bit even the slow build up. I’m left emotionally drained.

One Day, absolutely fabulous. All the actors, including the ones with small parts, are credible and brilliant. Best production I've seen for ages and absolutely puts that travesty of the book, the film with awful attempts at accents by the American lead, to shame.

Yes I’ve enjoyed this. Don’t know why some people just don’t subscribe to Netflix for a month or two to watch - it’s less than the price of a cinema ticket and great value in my opinion. Apple TV has some good series on at the moment too - Slow Horses, Criminal Record, Lessons in Chemistry, Bad Sisters.

Stansgran Sat 17-Feb-24 13:16:58

I’m grateful. Can’t cope with sadness at the moment.

The overwhelming sense of joy to see life changing love so beautifully portrayed.
It echoed many of my own experiences as a student in the 80s such as class and dingy accommodation.
Was new to the story so the diversity of the cast didn't worry me too much. Went to watch the film as soon as I'd binged the series. Might read the book too.

My family are staying with us next week so they can help. I just accessed it via my iPad but really want to watch it on the tv. When my partner is at my place he often lets people stay at his house and I worry about anything being on his tv that others can access. It really annoyed me when Roma won the Oscar for best film but you had to subscribe to Netflix to watch it.

I hadn't read the book or seen the film when I watched this so I had no idea about it. OMG totally wonderful and incredibly sad. Would thoroughly recommend!

I happened on it two nights ago. Don't know how many episodes but up to l0 now. Love it.

Scott Mills on Must Watch said he binge watched it on a plane journey. He got quite emotional talking about it!

Saggi Sat 17-Feb-24 11:54:50

I was laid -up with bad sciatica ONE DAY last week. Flicking through Netflix I saw this and decided to watch it all in ONE DAY. Thought it was appropriate!
Hanky time ….but oh how they wasted time…then timedid waste them!🥲

Polremy Sat 17-Feb-24 11:11:48

We watched the last three episodes last night.
Best thing we’ve seen on tele for ages.
Highly recommended.

ToppsyIrene06 - why would you say that in your comment? You have spoilt it for people - I have deliberately not said anything about it as I don’t want to spoilt it for others.
