Gone off her now, find her hysterical, her forced jollity and raucous laugh extremely irritating.

Personally, I would much prefer for travel programmes to just have commentary. For me, there is too much focus on the 'celeb' and not enough on the places featured. The person's ego spoils things.
I like Bettany Hughes but she hogs the camera. It would be much better if she stayed in the background and just described what the viewer is seeing.

And singing, when you arrive!! grin

I like Susan Calman's travel programmes, ,she's warm & natural & certainly doesn't talk down to anyone? She is a bit over-excitable & gushing, she's no Michael Palin, but I much prefer her to most the celebs who do travel series these days. Antartica looked stunning but I don't think cruises should be anywhere near the place, surely there's enough other stunning places in the world without encroaching on somewhere totally unspoilt?

Sorry you lost your photos, but as my Grandson said to me "it's all there in your mind Nana".

I had never heard of her until she was on The Great British Menu. She was awful and completely ruined the program, thankfully just for one series.

Yesterday, Joanna Lumley was on a travel programme, something about the spice trail or something like that - oh my gosh Petra is just stunning !,

I am extremely fortunate to have visited Petra, it is spectacular.

I only have my memories as I lost my camera chip with all my photos.

I too have visited Petra, what an amazing place, the glorious sight as you leave the siq and see it. Walked there and back in 40deg heat, but so worth the journey, sort of a pilgrimage in the steps of Moses.

I've lost track of who we are slating chatting about.

I'm not terribly keen on her because she seems a bit loud and over excitable, but her trip to Amsterdam in 2023 moved me enough to visit last month.

I enjoyed the Antarctica one, reminded us if our Antarctica cruise just before Covid. She was a lot braver than me, but then I can't swim, so some of the activities were out for me. And you would never have got me down in that submarine!

It’s TV for the stupid.

How insulting to those who enjoy seeing the places that Susan visits that they have no opportunity to do so.

Yes I found that very rude also. As you say she takes us to places where we can no longer visit, for whatever reason. Her obvious enjoyment of everywhere she goes, her courage to do things she's scared of, she makes me laugh, so let us that enjoy her programmes continue to do so, in these days of nothing but gloom and doom, and bah humbug to those that mock us.

MissInterpreted Mon 19-Feb-24 20:25:48

I don't particularly like her, but I'd take her over Jane Macdonald any day of the week - cannot stand watching anything she's in!

MissAdventure Mon 19-Feb-24 20:24:23

I don't like her, either. 😄

Lucyd Mon 19-Feb-24 20:22:16

Initially I enjoyed her travel programmes but then she really started to get on my nerves. Her loud laugh and the fact that she comes across as not terribly bright (she is an intelligent woman who practised law) just annoyed me. Much prefer Jane MacDonald who does come across as genuine.

Sago Mon 19-Feb-24 20:18:10

I agree it was a bit harsh but she talks down to everyone, I managed 10 minutes😬.

I like Susan Calman, love her travel programmes, I bet she`s fun to go on holiday with.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 19-Feb-24 18:44:09

I watched the one where she was in Antarctica and thoroughly enjoyed it.

MissAdventure Mon 19-Feb-24 18:35:38

If its who I'm thinking, she gets on my wick, too.

Greenfinch Mon 19-Feb-24 18:33:33

I find the programmes are all about her rather than where she travels to and I don’t find her very attractive personality wise.

Skydancer Mon 19-Feb-24 18:25:36

Oh that's odd. I think she's funny and I've only recently started watching her.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 19-Feb-24 18:14:19

Ghastly woman. Spoils programmes which, without her, could be interesting and enjoyable. If her name is mentioned I just don’t watch it now.
