Another 4 nighter, starting tonight on Channel 5, 9pm.

Looks promising from the trailers, but….

Starring Jill Halfpenny, who also starred in ‘The Drowning’ and ‘The Holiday’, both previous channel 5 (I think) 4 nighters, both equally awful.

Not forgetting the recent ‘Love Rat’, but cannot blame Jill for that one.

Well, we live in hope for this week’s offering.

We watch to find out what happened but it was so poorly written, and the dialogue so predictable. It was melodrama, not drama, and with actresses like Clare Goose and Jill Halfpenny one expects something better.

When Sian came round the side of the caravan and grabbed Alice ……I actually screamed and nearly jumped off the sofa. My husband could not stop laughing and my son came downstairs to see what was going on! 🤣

Gwyllt

I enjoyed the fCuckoo
It never ceases to amaze me that people watch dramas on the TV then grumble away through the whole series. Why watch if it’s that bad. If everything was true to life it could be quite boring
If it’s crime fiction the clue is in the title.
Not docudrama
I have not heard anyone claim Harry Potter lacks reality or is far fetched.
Or that science fiction could not possibly be true
It’s a story enjoy or change channels

Yes Miss!

So, you’re being chased by a psychopath who thinks she’s your mother and despite plenty of places to hide you go and stand on the edge of a cliff! 😂

What an absolute load of codswallop!

Alice didn’t seem as if she could run, she had the most peculiar way of moving.

merlotgran Thu 11-Apr-24 18:30:12

It all feels a bit dated. Back in the day it would have been edge of the seat stuff.

OldFrill Thu 11-Apr-24 18:09:10

I'm hoping there's a twist, it's all too predictable.

ufix1 Thu 11-Apr-24 11:59:20

Nitty natter your comment about her wearing the boots upstairs is so funny, just the sort of thing I would notice. I haven't seen The Cuckoo yet as we are on a short break in Italy which is warm & lovely.

henetha Thu 11-Apr-24 10:22:57

I'm still watching, for heaven knows what reason. They're all bonkers aren't they.

Chestnut Thu 11-Apr-24 09:57:20

Alice seems to be a psycho too, leaving her mum locked in a cupboard without a second thought. She is very much like Sian, even the weird paintings. They both need a psychiatrist.

Poppyred Thu 11-Apr-24 09:55:38

I’m still watching…..only because there is nothing else on! 😩

Lovetopaint037 Thu 11-Apr-24 09:37:05

Yes, reckon most of us have sussed the plot. Mentally ill woman loses baby and believes someone else has her. Suppose her aunt will tell it all at some stage. Alice will work it out and her mum will be saved. The whole thing is mad, not just the woman in need of psychiatric help. Still watching it as it some kind of entertainment.

Calendargirl Thu 11-Apr-24 06:52:55

It will probably turn out that her baby died, as she hasn’t explained why she had her adopted, or has she?

Surprised she hasn’t bumped Auntie off.

How was she supposed to have traced the family?

There isn’t one pleasant character amongst them.

When they were interviewing the husband at the police station, I thought they had brought in some of Alice’s classmates to speak to.

The interviewing policewoman looked about 12!

OldFrill Thu 11-Apr-24 00:43:14

She thinks she's the mother.
The stepmother said the birth mother was dead
The aunt repeatedly implied the cuckoo couldn't be the mother.
I watched all 3 episodes tonight, gloriously ad-free which was the saving grace.
I'm sure these dramas are meant to be comedies.

Louella12 Wed 10-Apr-24 21:58:41

I'm beginning to think she might not be the mother at all.

Millie22 Wed 10-Apr-24 21:48:29

I'm having another look at it as it's got a bit more interesting.

Is she actually the mother?

montymops Wed 10-Apr-24 16:18:04

Still watching it 😂😂 think the title is very apt- apart from the cuckoo in the nest thing - because they all seem to be cuckoo anyway - apart from the daughter perhaps - load of rubbish really but there’s a dearth of good television at the moment.

Calendargirl Wed 10-Apr-24 16:11:06

BigBertha1

I think the daughter is awful if she were mine I might be glad if someone took her off my hands. (Joking really)

Yes, the daughter is not very loveable. Very mardy looking, and the parents seem to bend over backwards to appease her.

No experience of adoptions, but not bringing her up to know she was adopted appears to have been a big mistake.

Louella12 Wed 10-Apr-24 15:53:24

Nannan2

She did crash in the long driveway- but she had already let her drive home before that.

Ah thank you!

I must have missed that bit. My mind tends to wander these days!

I will look for Clocking Off. I can't stand all these game shows and reality tv rubbish. We have gone through loads of old series on ITVX and Iplayer. A Touch of Frost, Silent Witness to name a couple. There is a series on Iplayer called Ralph and Katie. If you haven't seen it it's funny and moving at the same time. The couple who play the parts have Downs Syndrome but they are brilliant actors.

Barbadosbelle Wed 10-Apr-24 14:36:34

..

You're so right. 'Clocking Off' is fantastic.
We're on Series 2 Episode 2 on the iPlayer.
Fabulous writing and acting. And every face still around now and recognisable- Philip Glenister, John Simm, Sarah Lancashire, Siobban Finneran, Christopher Eccleston and on and on and on.
We're watching an episode over a tray lunch each day and enjoying each episode immensely.

The Cuckoo, It was an obvious from the title that she JH would be The Cuckoo & that Alice would turn out to be her child .
Just a tad predictable 😢

Delila Wed 10-Apr-24 13:05:01

I’m sure channel 5 must have bought a cheap job-lot.
