Not very well written was our conclusion. Too many characters amid muddled plotlines. Midsomer can still entertain but this episode will be quickly forgotten.

I watched an older one on ITV3 last night, as not much on.

Betty was still a baby, Barnaby was minding her for the first time on his own.

I don’t know why they brought in a child for the new Barnabys really, think the dog and both their careers were enough to make a complete change from the other Barnabys, where Joyce had nothing to do apart from being a poor cook, acting in am drams, and going to painting classes.

This old episode wasn’t much better either.

I used to enjoy the odd detective programme but these days there seems to be so many of them - all a much of a muchness and becoming boring. Surely someone has got some new ideas?

Time to call it a day, I think.

…of the format. hmm

Same here re Neil D as Barnaby. And I find the two hour programmes about an hour too long…. Or it could be that I’ve watched so many, I’ve grown tired if the format.

Recorded it as DH said he couldn't bear to go through it again!

Glad you all said the same.. No little Betty and it was dire last night. I see its not on next week, a new programme.
Perhaps time to call a day on this?

I did not enjoy last night's episode- too much mumbling and my elderly brain could not follow the fast talking.

I also love the dog.

I thought it was quite poor, with or without Betty. She must be at secondary school by now.

Have never taken to Neil Dudgeon as John Nettles’ replacement.

And DS Winter’s hair took my attention. Has he had a hair transplant or something, his hairline looked false somehow.

And why do they dislike their relatives so much? They hardly ever lay eyes on them, John Nettles didn’t get on with his father, I seem to recall.

Barnaby has a swish kitchen.

I didn't miss Betty at all. I was just waiting for the dog.

Surprised there are any people left in Midsummer with all the murders going on! I have sometimes watched old episodes but I think they are a bit long, the attention span isn’t what it used to be.

I wondered that as well.

First episode, new series. Where on earth was Betty, the Barnabys' daughter? No sign or mention of her!
