Starting next month, the Netflix “basic plan” will be discontinued, to be replaced by their “ standard plan”, at £10.99 per month, an increase of £3 per month. Quite a big increase, and at very short notice.

Will anyone cancel?

petra
We start watching dramas or romances and many are so boring or violent, we give up.
I enjoyed The Queens Gambit, also The Gentlemen was a good series.
The Wonder, the story of an Irish girl who miraculously never needed to eat was something different, and currently Red Eye. And many more over the past years, but I'm afraid most nights now we struggle to find something to suit us. Not Shitts Creek, sorry.

All the cast are very loveable - and funny.

And me.. .an absolute favourite...
😊

I enjoy Netflix and can always find something on there to watch. The new series of Bridgerton is starting this month so it's worth joining just for that in my view.

Delila Wed 01-May-24 17:28:54

Actually, the £4.99 plan wasn’t mentioned in my email 🤔

Delila Wed 01-May-24 17:25:36

Yes, you’re right, those of you who pay £4.99 for the “with adverts” subscription” - that’ s still available. I’d rather pay more to avoid adverts.

I still think Netflix is good value, despite the increase, and offers a wide range of programmes across many genres. I’d almost pay it to be able to re-watch Schitt’s Creek as often as I like, it’s the best!

Interesting to hear people comparing it to other streaming services.

I opt in and out of Netflix, perhaps being in for 3 separate months each year. I only re-join for a specific film or series that I want to view. £4.99 with adverts is OK by me.

Desdemona the adverts are a slight irritation but I mute til they're over, the same as I do elsewhere.

Lovetopaint037 Wed 01-May-24 16:32:03

I’m staying with offer of one with adverts. Certainly giving it a trial as don’t wish to pay more. Fed up]
With increasing bills.

henetha Wed 01-May-24 16:26:13

I quite happy with the reduction to £4.99 with adverts. A minor hitch.

crazyH Wed 01-May-24 16:24:34

Desdemona - sorry to jump in - no, the adverts are not a nuisance . I put the kettle on or check GN or FB …

Urmstongran Wed 01-May-24 16:20:06

A slight irritation. But still better than relying on terrestrial tv to entertain us.

Desdemona Wed 01-May-24 16:17:22

Grandmabatty

I still get mine at £4.99 but with adverts. It's a pain but Prime did a similar thing.

Are the adverts a nuisance?

HousePlantQueen Wed 01-May-24 16:15:54

Netflix is stonking value I think, we pay the higher rate already. It is our saviour on a Saturday evening when the TV is stuffed with 'family entertainment', quiz shows, and numerous talent shows.

petra Wed 01-May-24 16:08:55

We have 4 streaming services. If I just had to have one it would be Netflix.
There is practically nothing we want to watch on terrestrial tv.
National Geographic is very good. That’s with Disney +.
And no, it’s not all cartoons. Shardlake is starting tonight.

Urmstongran Wed 01-May-24 15:53:20

I pay £4.99 started a month ago when the sharing with family was discontinued. It’s great value in my opinion. I’ve already watched ‘Baby Reindeer’ (stellar).

Last month I took my grandson to the cinema a fortnight ago (Kung Foo Panda 4 - don’t ask!) and one adult ticket and one child ticket at the Trafford Centre cost me £26! 😱

crazyH Wed 01-May-24 15:50:13

My Netflix is £4.99 - I don’t mind the ads. I hope they don’t increase that as well.

Smileless2012 Wed 01-May-24 15:43:28

Like you Grandmabatty, our Netflix subscription will remain at £4.99 but with adverts so your OP isn't accurate Delila.

LivelyLady
What would you say is a film / series you like.
I guarantee to find you a good film.
Btw, have you watched Schitts Creek. It is sooooo good we have watched the whole series 3 times. It has cult status in the US.

livelylady Wed 01-May-24 15:18:03

Sorry Jane 112! It's been a busy day!

livelylady Wed 01-May-24 15:17:10

Thanks Jane113 for the info. We use Netflix. Watched Baby Reindeer the other night, but gave up on it. Not our cup of tea. Have recently struggled to find anything worthwhile to watch. Our 30 something DD says the same.
With very little now on landline tv we don't want to give up Netflix yet.
