I read Rylan’s book during lockdown and it was very open and honest. Older readers might be shocked at his language and descriptions of what he got up to.

Rob Rinder I cannot warm to at all. Last time I looked he wasn’t even a Judge, so why call him Judge Rinder?

What I can never understand about some gay men, including these two, is why they have to go so over the top with their campness and talk in those stupid “sissy” voices. Alan Carr and Julian Clary are the same. It is so irritating.

I agree and Rob with his darling every 2 minutes. Having said all that I absolutely loved the show for the culture and art, I learned so much.

It is Rob I did not take to, I keep getting the feeling he is hiding an exhibitionist dying to get out. There is just something about him I can't take to.

I don’t really mind Rylan’s campiness. What I used to dislike was Stephen Fry’s gay innuendos when he used to compère awards ceremonies. They really used to irritate me and were totally unnecessary.

Yes, it be a way of expressing an identity, and it can go back to childhood for some. It is quite common in the theatre or performing arts industries, and some cultivate that way of speaking. DH was a London stage lighting designer and had several gay friends as this industry does naturally attract them for their creativeness and sensitivity. Having said that, there are plenty of gay men -footballers, doctors, politicians (!!) who don't speak like that, so it appears to be a choice. I don't really notice either way after a few minutes.
Remember John Inman? That's how he was all the time.

I got half-way through the first episode and switched off. It is coming out of my license fee for these 'celebs' to go on yet more jolly japes. All the stuff featured in this trip can be found by spending a bit of time on Google.
I would have been quite happy to replace one of them but wasn't asked.

Thank you for bringing this series to my attention. Watched the first two episodes yesterday.

What an absolute delight.

Despite many visits to both cities my husband and I learnt things we didn't know and saw a few places that we'd never discovered.

The friendship and respect between the two men is obviously sincere.

But, note to Rylan - if there is another series (and I really hope there will be) please cut out the silly and over-suggestive sexual comments. It meant that we couldn't watch with younger family members who love history and Italy. It isn't necessary. You're better than that.

In the meantime - we're off to Rome this afternoon. (Via Episode 3!!!)

I found the history and art interesting and Rob is OK but don’t warm to Rylan at all, in any programme.

Another fan here! Not just about the Celebs but so much historical info. which is fascinating,
I have been to Venice and Florence and Rome is next on the list.

Where did they find such interesting, and knowledgeable guides on every subject? The lady in Rome explained the beautiful baroque pieces with passion, yet still brought it down to modern living too.
I can't remember whether it was Rylan or Rob who said that they felt as though their spirit were ascending through the roof with The Triumph of the Name of Jesus fresco.

I admit to liking Rylan though usually give these celebrity shows a huge swerve . However as Venice was the location & I visited as a 17year old I couldn’t resist .
We both watched it on iplayer & absolutely loved both Rylan & Rob , they are a great fit, each bringing their own uniqueness & expectations.
It was a learning curve of the arts as well also learning about the actual term “ Grand Tour”
Loved it , still have the last one to watch .

I think these two guys are amazing. They have both been through the emotional mill especially Rylan who opened up that he went down to 9 st and tried to top himself. All due to people treating g him like an idiot which from this programme he clearly is not. Made my husband watch all episodes and he loved it and thought they were genuinely nice guys. It was so wondsee all the places I have been but through two different sets of eyes. Brilliant programmes.

Rylan didn’t attempt suicide due to people treating him like an idiot he attempted suicide because of his guilt over being unfaithful to his husband.

Lovely series, as well as enjoying the beautiful art and countries it made me look at Rob and Rylan differently, always liked Rylan but knew little of Rob.

I loved all three programmes and what a revelation Rylan was. A clever man behind all the celebrity facade. I felt a bit like Rob actually, that Rylan was making me see the paintings in new ways.

There are Farmhouses all over Europe with my husband's work hanging on walls, often drawing of the little children or the grandparents.

MayBee, there were times when I would have given anything for a packet soup.

My husband is a fine art painter, so wherever we went he would be paid nting.

Very often locals would take pity on the " starving artist " and give us a roof over our heads and feed us.

I had on many occasions eaten strange things in a stew.( a bull's testicles) memorable.!!

I would never want to offend such generosity.

My husband ate everything with gusto. He was a War baby and had grown up with a French grandmother.

I once found a live mouse sitting in the car.I took pity on it and feed it, put out in the field.

We used to sleep in our Morris 1000 Traveller. Lived on packet soup mixed with locally bought vegetables.

That’s how I feel. I doubt if I’ll be doing it by driving around and using Eurocamp this time!
