Thief at the British Museum

Pretty damning evidence pointing to the one-time curator, Paul Higgs. He is either the person responsible for a multitude of thefts or someone has assumed his identity, which these days may be possible. What a shame no-one took the collector seriously years ago when he informed them of what he thought was happening. They could have saved so many precious artefacts.

I got so fed up at the slowness of the introduction/background etc - talk about spinning things out!
Hope she gets down to business tomorrow.

Watching and absolutely stunned that this was able to happen.

Thanks for the heads up about the programme Sarnia. I will watch it.

I believe the BM took proceedings against a former employee chocolate, but don’t know the outcome. I would have expected the police to prosecute. Doubtless the programme will enlighten me.

Absolutely shocking. Were the collector's claims investigated, or simply ignored?

It’s horrifying that the BM hadn’t catalogued all the items in their custody. They are now getting round to it. A disgrace.

This programme is on BBC2 at 7pm this evening. It deals with the artefacts stolen from the British Museum with some being sold on eBay. A collector contacted the museum a couple of years ago as he was suspicious about the seller and then items being sold. They chose not to believe him at the time. Might be worth watching.
