I'd like to think it will go on forever, but the audience is declining, and I don't think it's anywhere near as good as it used to be. They seem to write scripts based on budgets rather than entertainment value, and the new contracts for the actors make continuity difficult. I wish they'd cut all the serial killer stories and stick with more credible domestic ones, bringing back the comedy they used to be so good at.
I do watch it, and will probably stick with it to the bitter end, as I did with Brookside, but unless there is a rethink at the top I fear for the future of the cobbles.
