Britains Got Talent - any thoughts!

I thought the acts were really good. Wasn’t surprised when the winner was announced but couldn’t believe the runner up! So many other excellent and amazing acts. My dh always maintains the whole thing is rigged. Amanda’s dress was as entertaining as some of the acts. Any one else watching?

Discussing this with friends today, although I never watch it. Why is it called Britain's got Talent, suggesting it is made up of acts from people who live in the UK and NI, when it actually has people who travel in from abroad to take part ?? Canada and Japan etc.

I liked BGT in the early days with much more home grown talent and less sophisticated acts. Diversity was breathtaking but now there’s loads of ‘em and Susan Boyle was definitely a one off.

The judges didn’t show off, even Piers Morgan was good and for a sense of the ridiculous, Stavros Flatley were spot on!

Like a lot of reality stuff I think BGT has had its day.

I havent watched it in a few years.
I think singers should be taken out of the competition. So have done my own personal boycott!
Not surprised that yet again, a singer won.

Out of the 10 most successful acts to win BGT only 2 acts were singers.

I was going to write "really"?

But what do you mean by 10 most successful.

Freya5 nothing to do with home grown contestants it’s held in Uk so hence the name it takes part in Britain
British contestants take part in Australias got talent Americas got talent etc etc

Looks like there were 3 pianists who sang and two singers in the last 10 years.
Too many for me personally.

I agree. Another reason I quit. And the sob stories.
But no worries. I am maybe not the target audience. Doesnt matter in the great scheme of things.

The problem with taking singers out, is that this is the only competition where they can choose their own songs to display their talent, not have a different genre forced on them every time.
If Eurovision can include Australia, Israel etc, why not have performers from other countries coming to Britain?

Clawdy Mon 03-Jun-24 22:45:30

Seemed a bit unkind to list all the votes from the bottom. Why not just the top three?

I thought that as well.
Totally unnecessary.

I love BGT. Don't care where the performers come from, I just enjoy all of it. This year's final was great with a number of possible winners. Personally I hoped Innocent would win. I wasn't a huge fan of Sydnie really. But the whole thing was wonderful.

I don't watch it but did have a go watching snapshots of a couple of episodes. Like others can't figure why it's called Britain's got talent when so many from other countriess seem to take part. And that's only from part of the two episodes I saw. What on earth has happened to AH. Absolute mess, and the two outfits I saw - no words!

catd Wed 05-Jun-24 12:04:09

I enjoyed the magician but thought Sydnie would win. Someone should tell AH that it's a family show and could she wear something more appropriate!

MissAdventure Wed 05-Jun-24 12:05:46

I love magic, but weren't they long winded?
I was fed up by the time they stopped blabbering and did the trick.

polly123 Wed 05-Jun-24 15:00:06

Disappointed as I wanted the amazing opera singer to win, such a wonderful talent. Yes, global talent is more appropriate. The winner had a good voice but for me as boring as the dog lady. Predictable as the judges irritatingly over the top comments.

MissAdventure Wed 05-Jun-24 15:11:13

Yes, the judges seem to have lost their minds.
Falling around with laughter at non funny comedy...

wendyann23 Wed 05-Jun-24 15:13:52

Apparently both the singer who won and the opera singer have already performed on stage. Think that undermines the contest as always believed it was to showcase undiscovered talent.

MissAdventure Wed 05-Jun-24 15:20:45

Talent seems to have little to do with it these days.
Just an excuse for Amanda to wear ridiculous clothes, and Louis to stand up and wave his arms about a lot.

Your husband may have a point! I have heard that the hopefuls have to go through some preliminary auditions before getting anywhere near the ‘real’ judges.
Ben Elton’s book, Chart Throb, tells of them being separated into ‘ clingers, mingers, or blingers’, and I suspect it’s very near the truth.

BlueBelle Wed 05-Jun-24 15:46:36

MissA not sure what year you’re watching but Louis hasn’t been in it for donkeys ages
Amanda’s dresses are awful and totally inappropriate I don’t much like Cowell but the other two are fine Bruno s over the top but I think he’s a kindly man and Alesha seems to have some common sense
I thought Sydney Christmas was a great singer but shouldn’t have won I thought there were better acts
I don’t care where they come from its held in the UK and that’s what it means as far as I m concerned many countries have their own ‘xxx got talent’ and they are all open to anyone from other countries you don’t need to be born or living in that country to take part

Dianehillbilly1957 Wed 05-Jun-24 15:47:02

Why is it Britain's got talent when they come from all over the world to compete? Hence the reason we don't bother with it anymore. It's had it's day!

MissAdventure Wed 05-Jun-24 15:56:39

I don't know his name, BlueBelle
The hand waver, anyway.

MissAdventure Wed 05-Jun-24 15:57:13

Oh Bruno.
That's him.

BlueBelle Wed 05-Jun-24 16:06:41

Oh Dianechillbilly read some replies that’s been said by a number of other people on this thread
It’s held in Britain anyone can take part as in ‘Americas got talent’ ‘Australia's got talent’ etc etc, we can go there if we want to, to showcase our talents

And I don’t think it’s had its day with most people writing on this thread and I believe the watching figures are still good. So just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s had its day for others I throughly enjoyed all the global talent (Especially those good looking Australian guys who juggled while undressing very tasteful 🤭)

MissAdventure Wed 05-Jun-24 16:12:15

I liked them, too. smile

crazyH Wed 05-Jun-24 16:12:32

I love these kind of shows. Variety.
