I agree. Far too much chatter with phone in people. Really dull because they all say the same stuff- soulmate/rock/perfect partner yada yada…

I do like Michael Ball, I think he will settle into Love Songs bringing his own style, Steve broadcasting the show for so long is a hard act to follow.
However Paddy Mcguiness needs to go, definitely a switch off.

Sorry, forgot to answer your question: No, it wasn't Michael Ball's first Lovesongs, but his 2nd or maybe even 3rd.

He has taken this over, and Paddy McGuinness (voice like nails on a blackboard ) has taken over MB's programme following on at 11am.

I agree NanaTuesday I love Tony Blackburn, albeit with the corny jokes, and Saturday mornings wouldn't be the same without his Sounds of the Sixties. If I don't wake up in time, I get the programme on BBC Sounds.

Like you, I'm "of an age when pirate radio ruled". In fact, my love of radio began with Radio Luxembourg when a friend's brother used to tune in for the charts, and we listened with him. I must have been about 11.

I’m in France on holiday @ moment & only heard two of the “phone ins’ that you mentioned . I didn’t know he had taken over & as we were also here last week never heard that programmes. Was this his first ‘Love Songs ‘ ?
I must admit to quite liking his previous programmes but Radio 2 had gone somewhat downhill in my opinion . 😢A lot of the other so called “ presenters “ are just that . I do admit to liking “ Rylan” on a Saturday afternoon , Johnnie Walker Sunday Afternoon. Also I try to catch Tony Blackburn Friday pm on catch up also his early Saturday program.
That said I also like when Spooney or OJ take over , more my kind of style of f music as well . I used to love Craig Charles & will always listen to Trevor Nelson a favourite of mine .
But as for Love songs , it was Steve’s baby & had passed with him sadly 🙏
Then again I’m of an age where pirate radio ruled 😘
