I can recommend’ Monk’ on Netflix
He’s an ex-homicide detective with a touch of OCD and he always solves the murders . Nice and easy watching and quite addictive ( for me anyway)

Just remembered Whitstable Pearl on drama channel.

Holding on ITVX set in Ireland based on book by Graham Norton's book. Hope street on iPlayer also Irish. Ann ika on drama channel . The Bletchey ( sorry can't think how to spell it )circle drama channel set after second WW . Drama channel has a couple of films with Agatha Christie in them set during her first marriage when she went missing and the second on when she met her first husband. Both good mystery films. Madame Blanc My 5 also on My 5 murder something sorry forgot it's name set on a cruise ship . The Loch think that's on iPlayer. Sherwood on ITX .

Been watching Jack Taylor on ITX with Iain Glenn may be a bit to much gore for you . Case histories but forgot which channel . Having a brain foggy morning.

Some very good series on Walter presents Progressor T , Astrid in Paris . Unfortunately they have made British version of Professor T but didn't watch it as it won't be the same they are making British version of Astrid in Paris but won't be watching that either.

Inspector Montabana and young Montabana again spelt wrong on iPlayer. Vienna blood on iPlayer . Can't think off anymore you might like perhaps Black rain on iPlayer that's Australia.

I would recommend this too and the scenery is breathtaking.

Have you tried Rose and Maloney set in Bath? Also quite lighthearted and a bit of fun, Shakespeare and Hathaway.

The BBC in particular are putting out dark, violent stuff and I don't watch any of this, there's enough dark violence in the real world. But then others are too gentle and repetitive, and the same formula every week bores me rigid (Death in Paradise, Madame Blanc). So I look for something in between.

Often the old stuff is better than today's offerings. Prime Suspect is on Amazon Prime if you have it (I don't know how dark it is). Inspector Morse is on ITVX presumably from the start. There must be more.

Magpie Murders, by Anthony Horowitz is sparky & a little bit mind bending, Gorgeous scenery and Lesley Manville, looking gorgeous to, of course!

English ones - Father Brown is a long running one. The Last Detective with Peter Davison is an old but not too serious one.
Aussie ones - My Life is Murder. Police drama, Rush. And as Chestnut said Blue Heelers also a good gentle one.
Private Eyes about a pair of PI's, American, with Jason Priestley as one of main characters.

A bit off subject but I too prefer the more gentle crime dramas. At the moment, there seems to be an emphasis on shouty, sweary, angry and graphically violent crime dramas, particularly on the BBC with offerings like Kin, Blue Lights, Responder and Rebus (but I loved the Ken Stott version). Dramas like Death in Paradise and Boniface are a little too anodyne for my taste, what I'd like to see are more series somewhere midway and intelligent like Line of Duty. I have enjoyed a couple of recent Australian/New Zealand series.

I am more into True Crime and there are plenty of them from across the pond.

My very favourite is Inspector George Gently which is a bit more edgy but very good and I'm no fan of blood and guts. I love how the relationship between Gently and Bacchus develops over the years. A really great series.

There's a very enjoyable Aussie Police series on Amazon Freevee called Blue Heelers which will keep you going for ages as there are so many episodes.
