Just seen a clip of him at a pride event where he wishes Kemi Badenoch would shut up and disappear. Then he says we should all be kind to everyone. Except women perhaps??

Uff, one Person I can't warm too, he overacts in his work, looks smarmy, has an aura that just is all round nasty. If he's ever in a film or theatre or anywhere, I change channel, direction. Turn and leave, he's just one big yuck.

He is off my Christmas card list big time. 😝

Our grandmothers and further back fought for women’s rights, which are now being eroded. It is a disgrace in my opinion.

How are they being eroded? Yes, we need to go further but the vile attacks on trans people is not helping women's rights to move forward.

Tanjamaltija Sun 30-Jun-24 11:30:55

She is using the racist card, but that is not the issue. He said '... trans youth should not feel unloved or not accepted...'

Visgir1 Wed 26-Jun-24 12:16:37

Very disappointed in him, think his comments have backfired.

Wyllow3 Wed 26-Jun-24 12:12:26

David Tennent wasn't helping anyone as far as I'm concerned with his remarks on Badenhoch.

The problems arise when defining a transwoman. Can a man with a penis and superior strength to a woman just call himself female? Should he be able to access spaces at will or participate in any "women only" activity?

That for me is the big issue. I think that you are perfectly at will to call yourself any gender you wish, but it will never change you chromosomes, and the implication of carrying these chromosomes for your entire life is what the whole debate is centred around.

flappergirl Wed 26-Jun-24 11:42:17

There are so many nuances to this issue and absolutely nobody (in politics, the arts or the LBGT community) is discussing them in a measured way. The former are adopting the stance that women or anyone raising questions are homophobic, right wing dinosaurs. Some are of course, but the people I engage with and many other voices I've heard in the media are very far from it.

It simply isn't right that the most vocal amongst the advocates for trans rights are men who are not even trans themselves.

You cannot expect half the population (women) who have been subjected to thousands of years of misogyny, injustice and sexual violence to simply shut up. I can't help but feel that if we were any other demographic there would be proper consultation without the blanket autocracy and hysteria. we are witnessing.

Transwomen are a tiny, tiny minority and their existence realistically affecting our day to day lives is miniscule. However, it isn't non existent.

We all agree that transwomen should be free to live their lives as they wish, without harm or prejudice. As women we understand that only too well.

The problems arise when defining a transwoman. Can a man with a penis and superior strength to a woman just call himself female? Should he be able to access spaces at will or participate in any "women only" activity?

Too many ‘luvvies’ thinking their opinions are important to the rest of us.

I agree. .... and they are often hypocrites of the first degree.
It's the quickest way to put me off their "cause".

Those of us who are expressing our concerns about the eradication of women's safe spaces and the language pertaining to biological women do IMO do so with grace and intelligence. The absence of both is clearly evident in the behaviour of trans activists and it appears, David Tenant.

I disagree that the trans community is one of the most maligned. It's the tiny minority of this minority group who are criticised and not just by women, but from their fellow trans who just want to live their lives in peace which they were doing before all of this nonsense, including women being referred too as 'people with a cervix; people who bleed; chest feeders' and women having to compete against trans women in sports, with all of the advantages their male biology provides.

Agreed! Your second paragraph sums it up beautifully. I’ve read posts on GN saying that people with gender dysphoria have lived among us, unnoticed for years.
But if that’s true, then which group of people with gender dysphoria (mainly TW) and their violent supporters have called trans into disrepute?
Is it the tiny minority who have been living unnoticed, or the even smaller minority +fans who have introduced lying, cheating, intimidation of females (even young girls) and violence into people’s perception of what being TW means?

The weirdest thing is that these TW want to deny the rights of the group they aspire to be, probably because they know they will never belong to that biological group, no matter how they dress, talk, have bodily alterations or take drugs, and if they can’t have that, then they don’t see why females should either!

^I don't wish ill of her I just want her to shut up^

Why? He won't.

Why does he have such an inflated sense of self importance that he actually has the audacity to think we care what he thinks?
He’s a racist bigot!

kircubbin2000 Wed 26-Jun-24 10:46:49

Sorry. Posted on wrong thread.

Callistemon213

Why do celebs think we are interested in their opinions?

They have the advantage of their celebrity to spout misogynistic hatred and to get away with it. Remember Jeremy Clarkson?

I don't care that his child is non-binary; I very much doubt that they are predatory and a threat to women and girls.
That is Badenoch's focus.

I'm astonished to find myself defending her 😯 but he is crossing a line there.

Exactly.

The child has just turned 11 surely too young to be pushed this way. The mum has many pictures on IG which are worth a look. She may wear the pants in that household.

Oh goodness!
All that publicity for a very young child cannot be good, surely?

TerriBull Wed 26-Jun-24 10:22:07

I like Andrew Doyle, I read his book "The New Puritans" fairly recently. I'll read your link Bags.

I confess my ignorance - what does F stand for please?

I enjoyed this essay by Andrew Doyle just now: The Ideological Capture of the Entertainment Industry

A lot of these celebrities seem terrified of not jumping on every passing bandwagon in case they are 'cancelled' and lose work. Look how the Harry Potter actors turned on J K Rowling.

Rosie51 Wed 26-Jun-24 09:37:10

The LFBT community are a tiny, tiny minority and are one of the most maligned.

And yet there are whole months dedicated to celebrating this tiny, tiny minority ? Streets and shops decked out with flags and the permanent rainbow crossings. No other section of society, whether minority or majority enjoys this level of endorsement. I don't dispute there is some negative reaction but try asking for respect and protection for women's rights and observe the often violent negative reaction.

As for should be big enough to tackle this issue with grace and intelligence, not in the way I read here or jumping onto Badenoch’s culture war wagon. I really haven't seen anything here that is jumping on a culture wagon, indeed surely it is DT and many other 'celebtities' that are jumping on that particular culture wagon. Does anybody else wonder why the incidence of 'transgender children' seems to be far higher amongst celebrities than the general population?

I am assuming 'LFBT' is an error; not being facetious but more and more letters being added to this unwieldy abbreviation.

For a 'tiny, tiny minority ' it seems to garner a great deal of publicity and disharmony, and deriding Kemi Badenoch's intentions as part of a 'culture war wagon will' not help.
