Just seen a clip of him at a pride event where he wishes Kemi Badenoch would shut up and disappear. Then he says we should all be kind to everyone. Except women perhaps??

Callistemon213 Wed 26-Jun-24 09:12:43

He could put me off voting Labour.

Thinking again now.

In what universe did David Tennant tackle this with grace and intelligence . Also he can still support his child without making nasty personal insults about someone who doesn’t share his views what lesson does that teach his child.
Presumably he is an intelligent man I’m sure he could have shown his support without resorting to playground tactics

I don't think anyone here has a problem with a parent supporting their child in the context of the event DT went to. His criticisms of KB on her stance in her support for the rights of women girls was nasty and intolerant and displays a level of left leaning bigotry. We have yet to experience what Labour's policies will be on such issues, although many of us hope they won't emulate those of the SNP. David Lammy has said something along the lines of "women must not horde their privileges" whatever that's supposed to mean, but sounds ominous, Wes Streeting appears to take a more balanced approach so I will reserve judgement. .It's not a question of "them or us" of course we sympathise with the struggles with anyone dealing with mental health/identity issues., but there are areas around women's issues where vociferous trans people will encroach if they're allowed to do so.

He seems to have an inflated sense of his own importance these days.

Absolutely. Never liked him anyway.

Tennant was at a LGBT event, supporting his offspring.

That’s what parents do.

The LFBT community are a tiny, tiny minority and are one of the most maligned. Behind all the glitz and glimmer on nights like that there are many stories of misery and mental ill health. There is a poster on GN who’s member of this community who took his life.

I think that where we as women feel that our space is being taken over by members of this community, and I am one who feels this is a real problem, should be big enough to tackle this issue with grace and intelligence, not in the way I read here or jumping onto Badenoch’s culture war wagon.

I know that I am probably in a minority of one, but “that’s life Grandma” as my grandson said!

Can't stand his " acting". Never have.

I don't wish ill of her I just want her to shut up

Why? He won't.

I can think of multiple reasons why I wish she'd shut up, but I can't speak for David Tennant.

The voters have a choice regularly at the ballot box to choose whether they want to listen to politicians or not.

Seems with a lot of celebs that they think we value their political views.
Hurray for Sir Anthony Hopkins, how refreshing.

It's always good when they show you who they are.

Exactly.

Well said Callistemon, I think I read somewhere when the great actor Anthony Hopkins was asked about his opinion on some political matter his response "don't ask me I'm an actor" and that's it. In this context DT's opinions are his own, just that and won't resonate with the majority of women and anyway who cares, he's famous for acting. Conversely Kemi Badenoch's stance on this matter is representative of many womens' attitudes and their fears.

Nicenanny3 Wed 26-Jun-24 07:45:24

Disgraceful, perhaps he can disappear off our TV screens.

Galaxy Wed 26-Jun-24 07:40:04

It is usually those who view themselves as 'good' who are the most scary.

He has a LGBT child. So Badenoch would not be his favourite person.

Hopefully tactical voting will sort her out.

The fact he has an LGBT child is no excuse for him to wish someone who doesn’t share his views to just disappear but she is the one who needs sorting out
Let’s be kind to everyone as long as they agree with me

I wish Kemi Badenoch would disappear as an MP.

Callistemon213 Wed 26-Jun-24 07:29:01

Why do celebs think we are interested in their opinions?

They have the advantage of their celebrity to spout misogynistic hatred and to get away with it. Remember Jeremy Clarkson?

I don't care that his child is non-binary; I very much doubt that they are predatory and a threat to women and girls.
That is Badenoch's focus.

I'm astonished to find myself defending her 😯 but he is crossing a line there.

Rockyroad Wed 26-Jun-24 07:20:14

Well said Kemi.

He's dead to me now.

Curtaintwitcher Wed 26-Jun-24 03:55:43

I'm disappointed. I thought he was more broad-minded than that.
We should all be thankful that someone has the courage to stand up and state what so many of us are thinking.

eazybee Wed 26-Jun-24 03:19:28

Kemi Badenoch:
"I will not shut up. I will not be silenced by men who prioritise applause from Stonewall over the safety of women and girls."

Another talented actor who has allowed accolades for his undisputed acting talent convince him he is an authority on other unrelated subjects.
