Why put gay friends in quotation marks? When that's done it's usually because the poster is being disdainful of the phrase or words being used by the person they are responding to.

If you've got gay friends, it's the same as having friends, or brothers or sisters, which are not usually qualified with quotation marks.

GrannyGravy13 has gay friends who've chatted and they've told her what they think - so why shouldn't she make a point about what they said?

I am not a banner more of an avoider.

The only Parade in London we took our children to and now our AC take our GC along to is The Lord Mayors Show .

The local Carnival Parades are good also.

Let children be children, unless you lead them into the children’s area blindfolded they are going to be aware of the seedier side of Pride.

Out of curiosity looked up London Pride march

There is what GG13 describes but also London Fire Brigade, and armed forces marching. Asked DS and he said OK for 11 yr old to go, lots of explaining can be done in the right sort of way under parent control .Bits of the parade make me think of Mardi Gras dressing up.

Wyllow3 I can se that it could/would lead to having conversations with an eleven + child.

I just question is it necessary for a stereotypical straight family to take children to Pride.

Up to the parents, not "necessary". Just part of life. Depends where you live, too, my GC live back of beyond and see very little of life.

Yes, I remember DD going to big parades in Sydney. It was a huge affair there before here, called the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Why would you want to ban Pride. Some people enjoy it. The local one fills the town centre.
The police this year remarked on the relatively peaceful occasion, the only disruption being people in rainbow costumes who were decidedly drunk and waving bottles.
I wouldn’t take children because of that and because some of the participants think it’s clever to wear really vulgar costumes, like the one outside the library-remember that one?

Nobody is forced to go.

The funny thing is, we’ve seen that if females have a gathering proclaiming pride in being female, there is always violence offered from TRA.

Yes, always the way on a lot of marches/footy and always very frustrating when they eat up the headlines.
I was surprised but pleased to see to was OK to be gay from armed forces tho in the London clip.

It's been a long time coming Wyllow, too long.
