Dance Moms - am I the only one to find it disturbing

We've been doing a lot of looking after of DGC this past couple of weeks - DS-i-L was for work and DD started new job on longer hours.

DGD has introduced me to 'Dance Moms' and the episode we watched yesterday got me thinking. The teacher is a bully - she got right in the face of the youngest member of the group, who's only 7, when she had a meltdown as she couldn't keep up with the older, bigger girls. Told her she had to do it, or she'd find someone else. She plays the girls off one another too.

The show was mainly about auditions in LA for dance videos and the section where the girls (mainly pre-teen, some maybe just teenagers) audition and have to 'strut their stuff' for an all male panel is positively creepy!

You see a lot of this.

I saw a bit of it whilst channel hopping. It looked horrific.

It was reality tv .... a lot of the drama was for effect.....the kids are all grown up now and adults and most are multi millionaires

When our sons were in footbal clubs in the 70's, it was horrendous watching the dads around the pitch yelling at their children and the referee, there was no need for it.

I think they were reliving their own youth.

BigMamma that's exactly it.
We saw it too.

Interestingly, saw it worst in football, less in hockey and cricket but still there.
Also at "horsey" things, dancing, music competitions etc.

Abbey was a strict dance teacher (ALDC) who got results, I thought the Moms were far worse than Abbey.

Maddie Ziegler was in Sia’s Chandelier video aged 9, many of the girls went on to have a career in dance on stage and screen along with a multitude of music videos.

I don't watch it, but I remember 'Toddlers in Tiaras' , which was equally awful.

I too watched the original. I actually thought most of the dance Moms, a few of the other teachers and Abbey were all pretty appalling, BUT it made for additive TV!
