Did you hear the blue suede shoes are up for auction?

I have always loved Elvis. I was heartbroken when he died. ‘I just can’t help believing’ is my favourite Elvis song, also love ‘Poke Salad Annie’. I have never heard of ‘Mary in the Morning’, going to investigate now. 😃

My biggest regret is not seeing him in concert.

Yes did see it when it had just cone out Austin Butler was outstanding. Tom Hanks also very good, I didn't know that Col Tom Parker, an assumed name, was actually Dutch with a very dubious past,. He exploited Elvis, altogether a bad lot.

Did you watch the Elvis biopic when it came out? I thought Austin Butler who played Elvis was amazing and narrowly missed winning the Oscar for his performance. If Tom Hanks portrayal as Colonel Tom Parker was accurate then he put making money out of Elvis above his wellbeing.

Exactly like Kate49 a massive Beatles fan, they dominated my childhood years Not a fan of Elvis at all during his lifetime, have come to appreciate his terrific voice and talent in the last 20 years. I loved the Baz Lurhman biopic.

My mum was always playing Elvis records so I grew up hearing his music and have always been a fan.

Never thought I’d get to Graceland but thanks to DD1 we visited just before Covid really got going and we had the place to ourselves.

‘The Girl Of My Best Friend’ is one I particularly like (there are so many).

Poignant words, must have applied to so many people.

There will never be another Elvis, I grew up in the early 60's, watched all his films, couldn't get enough of his music, I still listen to his songs on you tube and cd's ,,,my daughter loves his songs too..

Mary in the Morning used to be on a compilation of his Greatest Hits so don't know how OP missed it.
But, when you have a back catalogue like Elvis some are bound to fall by the wayside.

I was a massive Beatles fan and came to Elvis later in life. My older sister was a fan so I knew all the songs growing up. I saw a pic of him once and the caption underneath said 'Elivis, looking more handsome than 10 movie stars'. I agree with that.

Blue Hawaii was on TV recently. I knew the words to all the songs. It reminded me of going to the pictures with my Elvis obsessed friend and when Elvis came down the river with his bride singing the Hawaiian wedding song, my friend stood up in the cinema and shouted to the bride 'Take your bleedin hands off him' to the bride 😄

Hellogirl1 My granddaughter (9) has always loved Blue Hawaii. When she was young I had to fast forward the talking scenes (boring) and scenes where the teenage girl was trying to seduce Elvis (difficult to explain) but she watches them now. 😂 She never watches the whole movie these days but often asks to put it on when she comes over just to watch a bit. It's definitely my favourite movie too, just so delightful in every way.

However, I also love Flaming Star because young Elvis put in a great acting performance as a young man torn between two cultures. He had a white father and Native American mother and was rejected by both sides. Excellent movie if anyone hasn't seen it.

I've a penpal who actually saw him sing in Vegas. I've never been jealous of anyone until then

So nice to read all these, What is your favourite Elvis film? Mine is Blue Hawaii, I could watch it over and over again.

Loved Elvis. I remember one journalist saying that of all the famous people he had met, Elvis was unbelievably handsome ……

I like Elvis’s music and in his youth he was very good looking. I remember saving my pocket money to buy his early records such as Hound Dog and Don’t Be Cruel and playing them over and over again. My friend Jean who died four years ago was a massive fan and Amazing Grace by Elvis was played at her funeral. She and her daughter went to Memphis and visited Graceland which we also visited about 20 years ago and it was one of the highlights of her life. I was saddened to hear it is going into foreclosure. Mary In The Morning is a lovely song, one of my husband’s favourites and he likes it by Joe Longthorne and Glen Campbell, both of whom have lovely voices. I will tell him to look for Elvis’s version on You Tube.

LovesBach

His voice was tremedous - I saw a sad clip of virtually his last performance, when he looked so bloated and ill, and someone held the mike for him as he sat at a piano. Then he started to sing, and that wonderful deep, soaring voice was just as it had always been. He was slightly 'before my time', but my older cousins were mad about him and played his records constantly.

I saw that performance as well and thought it was heartbreaking..

I’m not a terrific Elvis fan, but I do love his song “If I can dream” I think that’s amazing, I’ve just asked Alexa to play it I find it very moving..
He was an amazing looking man…

I have always loved Elvus, The King. What a wonderful voice coupled with his good looks and bubbling sense of humour. He livened music up.

I`m an unashamed Elvis fan from way back in the late 1950s. Every so often I do what I`ve been doing this week, watching the little videos that are all over the internet, and listening to that wonderful voice that I love to hear. This week I came across a song I hadn`t heard before, don`t know how I missed it, "Mary in the Morning", now can`t stop listening to it.
Are there any more Elvis fans on Gransnet, please don`t say I`m the only one?
