Professor Patricia Wiltshire, forensic scientist.

What an interesting lady.

She is wonderful isn’t she?

So interesting- never knew about this aspect of forensics.

I love Desert Island Discs- you learn so much about different lives.
I love, also, The Life Scientific, as I am trying to address my limits in this area: except when it's astrophysics....when I find my eyes glazing over, sadly.

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode, a fascinating life and very determined character. You get participants from such varied backgrounds, last week a very savvy boxer, this week a scientist.

I will try to do find that, thank you V3ra

Her area of expertise is very specialised indeed. I read an article about her a while ago and she is indeed a very interesting person.

I hope that will be repeated on Friday morning. Otherwise, I think I can ask Alexa to find it for me!

V3ra Mon 01-Jul-24 09:47:44

annodomini you can find it on BBC Sounds, Radio 4, then click on "Stations and schedules."
Then select Yesterday or Sunday 30th June. All the day's programmes are listed.

Desert Island Discs have a website. You can find any episode on there recent and old ones. They just play a shorter version of the chosen music.

I can remember listening to Desert Island Discs when those sending their wishes to people in Australia or New Zealand all seemed so far away. Now it is such a smaller world.

I have been away so now need to see what the heck they are doing to DID!! My sunday am used to be fine with DID followed by Private Passions on radio 3. (If you havent tried private passions it is very good with Micheal Berkeley talking in similar way to DID but longer pieces of music. Why these idiots think it is clever to move programmes round for no other reason than they can. They hope that by moving the programmes people will give up listening and then they can say they are no longer listened to and cut them. If it aint broke dont mend it!!!! Many of us have specific jobs or things that have to be done at a set time and our radio programmes accompany us and cheer up a boring day. Moving them so that there is some rubbish that you dont want is now on at your original time and the blood pressure rises with the fury at the arrogance where they just move programmes around without asking us what we want!!! My radio can move round the flat with me, cant be faffing around with the computer to get it.

Oh!

I too found Patricia Wiltshire very interesting on Sunday and she is to be admired for her work and her character. A fascinating life and a very enjoyable programme.

Oh Dear Madeleine (Mad-eleine?!), feel better now? Several points, you may not like changes, but they could well suit other folk?

Your "upset people, stop listening, so they can cut the show" makes little sense, BBC broadcasts several channels of Radio, 24/7, and DID would be a very cheap show to make. If they got rid of it, they'd have to make something else, for that slot, likely would cost more?

And re accessing BBC Sounds, V3ra described the process, honestly, it really isn't difficult, even I managed it.

madeleine45 I have installed the BBC Sounds app on my phone. I can listen to my favourite programmes around the house when I like through that.

I've even bought some smashing pink ear buds, the radio on my phone connects to them via Bluetooth so I can listen to it while I'm gardening 🙂

Cath9 did you mean Forces or Family Favourites where tunes were played for family and friends abroad? DID is when a person chooses a number of records with specific relevance to their life to be played on their desert island
