I see that Graziano is no longer part of the professional Strictly line up.

Similar to Giovanni issue?

Anniebach Thu 25-Jul-24 14:46:30

Amanda had suicidal thoughts 7 years before Strictly?

Joseann Thu 25-Jul-24 14:40:04

I think Millie22 might mean that AA was fragile.
Though sometimes people can use the experience to get over a traumatic event, like Helen Skelton successfully did.

Joseann Thu 25-Jul-24 14:37:38

She had suicidal thoughts and was in a bad place after her relationship with the father of her two children ended. I think that was about 7 years before she did Strictly.

Anniebach Thu 25-Jul-24 14:31:26

What health issues did Amanda have when she joined Strictly?

She has said she is speaking out to encourage women who have and or being abused

Millie22 Thu 25-Jul-24 14:17:03

Back to Amanda I also watched the interview with her on Channel 4 last night. I think she needs help and certainly should not have even considered doing Strictly last year with health issues.

I'm not sure why she is doing interviews just now unless it's to promote the new play she is in.

Kate1949 Thu 25-Jul-24 13:03:20

Yes I deed Annie. Savile. People spoke up and were told to be quiet.

Anniebach Thu 25-Jul-24 12:52:33

Saville and BBC

RosiesMaw2 interesting post about teaching.
Yes.
I agree.

I had a maths teacher for A'Level who had a a PhD from Cambridge - he was unable to grasp what I struggled with.

Kate1949 Thu 25-Jul-24 12:13:04

Exactly. Of course we can't compare the Strictly pros to these people but it's easy to let people see only what you want them to see.

Meant to add, one of my closest friends had neighbours two doors down who appeared to be a lovely couple, both very friendly and apparently devoted to one another - until the day he killed his wife with an axe! It later transpired that she'd suffered years of abuse at his hands - but she'd kept it all quiet and never told a soul.

Oh Annie you are so right. Just because someone has met a person and they appear 'lovely' doesn't mean that they are. My own father was a violent, abusive, horrible man. People who had no idea would say to me 'I had a chat with your dad yesterday. Isn't he lovely?'

That is so true. How many times do we read about violent murderers or serial killers, only for the neighbours or friends to say 'oh, he was a lovely man' or something similar. People can show a very different face in public to how they are behind closed doors.

Kate1949 Thu 25-Jul-24 12:05:58

Very true Molly.

Mollygo Thu 25-Jul-24 11:34:49

These are people the majority of whom I would imagine don't know Giovanni. They know the act he projects on screen.

That’s true, and I admire AA for bringing this to public attention.

Equally the same majority don’t know Amanda Abington, only the image she projects.

That’s no excuse for not listening and accepting what she says or sending vile messages and death threats, any more that excuses the same things still being addressed to JKR

Sparklefizz Thu 25-Jul-24 11:16:32

There are always some keyboard warriors who jump on the most recent bandwagon.

Kate1949 Thu 25-Jul-24 11:00:19

I've just watched a bit of the interview with Amanda. I will watch the rest later. She didn't seem unstable to me. She said she wasn't 'out to get' Giovanni or Strictly. She just wanted to bring the problem out into the open as she wasn't being listened to by the BBC bosses. She said there have been death threats to her and her family from Giovanni fans. These are people the majority of whom I would imagine don't know Giovanni. They know the act he projects on screen.

Anniebach Thu 25-Jul-24 10:50:04

Kate I was shocked when I heard it on the news yesterday,
many women still not coming forward .

eazybee you say Amanda* is ‘ apparently unstable’ , why ?

Kate1949 Thu 25-Jul-24 10:42:47

My mother stayed silent apart from tothe next door neighbours who she fled to on many occasions. I had hoped things had changed. Apparently not.

Anniebach Thu 25-Jul-24 10:39:02

Kate you have endured much, I truly am shocked by the criticism of these women, no surprise that many women stay silent

Kate1949 Thu 25-Jul-24 10:18:26

Amanda Abbington has handled her complaints which may or may not be true, very badly. She must be aware that producers will be wary of employing an apparently unstable actress who departed abruptly halfway through a popular show without reasonable explanation prompting unedifying speculation. She is now making allegations she is at present unable to substantiate.

A pity, because she was doing well.

Lovetopaint037 Thu 25-Jul-24 01:24:56

Saw a very upset Amanda on channel 4 news last night. Apparently she has received some vile death threats and was in tears about what happened to her. She says the BBC have withheld 50 hours of footage which her lawyer is being denied access to.

Anniebach Thu 25-Jul-24 00:52:30

RosiesMaw i only dip in and out of the series, Zara and Amanda have accused 2 very popular celebrities , seems one couldn’t have abused because a poster had met him and had a
photograph taken with him. Yesterday the rise in physical abuse numbers hit the news, much spoke of women not coming forward, !

RosiesMaw2 Thu 25-Jul-24 00:32:08

Who precisely do you meanAnnie ?

Anniebach Wed 24-Jul-24 23:36:10

Two women have been vilified here, we read often that many
women who are abused do not speak out,

RosiesMaw2 Wed 24-Jul-24 23:05:34

I am seeing parallels with the Charlotte Dujardin thread - and no, this is not a TAAT.
But in both cases we have talented practitioners but inexperienced teachers at fault.
Professional dancers may be the best dancers in the world but teaching your art or craft is another matter. Very often the best at “doing” cannot understand why others find it hard or that simply copying their movements will turn them into dancers. Understanding how we learn is not straightforward and showing is not teaching.
Shouting, bullying, physical aggression get you nowhere in teaching as the “professionals” concerned are learning to their cost.
In the same way CD is said to be a talented rider, instinctive and intuitive- not the ideal combination for teaching dressage to a beginner as has been pointed out.
Much to think about.
