I see that Graziano is no longer part of the professional Strictly line up.

Similar to Giovanni issue?

I don’t take notice of unnamed claims,

Anniebach So if all recorded why hasn’t he BBC stated the claims are all lies

Well, I am just guessing but I assume there are 100s of hours of video footage to go through, and new claims keep popping up faster than they can deal with the previous one.

I thought 2 claims

*Anniebach" - 2 other contestants joined with Amanda Abbingdon to complain, so that's 3, then there is Zara who didn't complain but whose training videos showed Graziano's abuse. So that's 4. Then there is an unnamed female pro who allegedly screamed in the face of her male celeb, and he has complained, And now there's Will Bayley as mentioned above.

Sparklefizz Mon 22-Jul-24 14:03:32

I agree Joseann and now they are talking about a blind contestant (Chris Causland) taking part in the next series - assuming it goes ahead. He actually joked on TV a while back that the BBC wouldn't be able to afford the insurance for him!

I've also seen mention of a celeb in a wheelchair possibly taking part. I really don't see how that person could be judged against able-bodied dancing celebs in the same way that paralympians don't compete against able-bodied athletes. Sometimes inclusivity goes too far imo.

Joseann Mon 22-Jul-24 13:29:03

I must admit I am a bit concerned about the show introducing celebrity dancers with disabilities like arthritic joints, prosthetic arms or legs etc. Even overweight contestants shouldn't really be attempting some of the moves. The pros are not physios or exercise specialists.

Casdon Mon 22-Jul-24 13:18:53

I now have the sense that some celebrities, who didn’t do very well in the show are jumping on the bandwagon. It just strikes me as a bit odd that a number of the complainers are who you would predict would complain, because they complain about other things as well. I’m not saying that some weren’t treated harshly, or even bullied, but I don’t believe them all either.

Mollygo Mon 22-Jul-24 13:09:24

Now Janette Manrara‘s partner Will Bayley is complaining that she made him redo a jump, the after effects of which are still causing him pain.
I’m sorry about the pain. Ongoing pain is a nightmare.
What I don’t understand is, if it hurt him the first time, why he didn't refuse to redo it.
If it didn’t hurt him the first time how did either of them know the second attempt would be a mistake?

I did read somewhere that Amanda's partner was going to be cleared. No idea if that's true or not. The press cannot be relied on

She would say that wouldn’t she.

I wondered why they are not refuting any misleading claims, but equally I wonder why they didn’t do something about what was seen on the video footage, since everything was recorded.

No support from Ann Widdecombe for Amanda. I have no patience with people who can only relate to their own experience in life and can't understand why everyone can't just be like them. Absolutely no understanding that Amanda's experience was actually not the same as hers.

The Strictly news used to be about them falling in love with each other. What bothers me most about the claims of abuse is that a young woman didn't complain because she feared for her career and the backlash she would get from victim shaming. Still? After the #metoo movement? Amanda Abbington received death and rape threats for speaking out so Zara knew what was ahead for her. Her reluctance to complain is understandable but its not right.

Who are these people who make rape and death threats against women who put their head above the parapet?

Are they men (I believe they are mostly, though not exclusively, men) from the Andrew-Tate-School-of-Charm? Individuals who are annoyed at having their fun-time interrupted? People who are angry that their heroes are being disrespected by being challenged? Or are they simply inadequate men or women who only feel potent if they are exerting power over others via their dusty keyboards?

Whatever - it must be very daunting to be female - and sometimes male - in the celebrity world these days.

I remember when the only way you could voice an opinion (other than privately) on a "star" was via a letter to the newspaper or by joining a fan-club and actually writing to them - or the secretary of the fan club...

Probably. I meant celebrities in general. I admire some famous people, their lovely singing voices, great acting etc but I have no idea if they are 'nice' as I don't know them.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 21-Jul-24 12:17:35

Kate1949 there are in all probability some GN members who do know some of the professional dancers, celebrity contestants, film & production crew…

Joseann Sun 21-Jul-24 12:00:29

Should read, It is all carefully crafted show business and the pros and celebs know how to manipulate their public image.
Sorry, I'm preparing lunch here!

I'm fascinated by the fact that some of you think these people are 'lovely'. How do you know? It's 'show' business. They are in it for the money and to promote themselves. I have always found Anton Du Beke creepy. Call me cynical......

Exactly what was said earlier. It is all carefully . business and the pros and celebs know how to manipulate their public image.
My perception of Johannes being " lovely" was taken from what his various partners have said about hm. Like Annabel Croft and her children, and I don't think they were lying.
You can't let Amanda A and Zara have their say, if you also don't listen to the partners of other celebs talking about their positive experiences. Both have a right to be heard and believed.

Anniebach Sun 21-Jul-24 11:23:56

Victim shaming is certainly happening on this thread

This is all tasty fodder that the tabloid press will whip up with glee.

Next to the Royals, Strictly headlines must bring joy and pound signs to the editors' ears.

The BBC should deal with it (and they seem to be) swiftly and effectively and issue a statement. And add a sort of "speak now or forever hold your peace" bit so that we don't have celebrities crawling out of the woodwork in 6 months time claiming a pro stepped on their foot in training.

Of course actual abuse in any form should not be tolerated, but the pros need to remember that it's not about THEM and the celebs need to remember it's going to be darn hard work and there may be a few blisters and bruises along the way.

Strictly and the spin offs around the world are arguably some of the most popular entertainment shows ever with audiences and contestants alike. The problems need to be sorted now and a line drawn.

Deedaa, I have a daughter who did a sport to a high level, sometimes after a gruelling session they would vomit, the coach didn’t take any notice of this at all, neither did the other children, it was accepted.
I am not sporty or competitive, and certainly not a pushy parent and sometimes it didn’t seem right to me, but my daughter always gave 100%, never complained, never missed a session, always enjoyed her self.
I have another daughter who would have been out of there screaming torture, after a single session, so while there can be no excuse for violence, and I feel disgusted with Graziano, I think some people are better suited to pushing themselves mentally and physically.
