Strictly Update.

There have been over 200 celebrity contestants on SCD since its first programme in May 2004.

Two females have now made complaints.

Two males have spoken out, but not complained just aired issues

Let’s not tar the entire production company due to this please.

I certainly think it odd that so many can criticise a woman for saying she was abused , even saying it’s mental health issue
because she was suicidal 7 years ago

No, I don't think it's odd at all.

She complained more than once to the producers, nothing changed and now others have come forward with complaints too. She may have thought it was just her, as did others, but it is obviously an accepted form of training on Strictly.

It's not a ballet school or even a dance school, it's an entertainment programme.
Time a light was shone on this, all gloss on the surface and unpleasant bullying behind the scenes.

Oh wait she is on a promotion tour about her new play “when it happens to you” about a woman feeling she had to speak out about an incident 😙

Abusive men have got away with this kind of thing for too long and it is getting worse.

The BBC should pull the show.

She did it to further her career

Obviously I don't know if Amanda was well enough to deal with the hard work and training involved with Strictly but she had turned down other work prior to that because of health concerns.

Abuse of any kind is never acceptable. I still think she needs some help of some sort to be able to process her thoughts.

These shows probably aren’t suitable for people who are already vulnerable. I’m sure there was a young man who quit I’m a Celebrity, a YouTuber, because he suffered such bad stress, and Gemma Collins, and Grace Dent. I bet if you go back over the years there would be a lot. ‘Medical reasons’ is the euphemism.

I remember Will Young saying he had to quit the show because he was in the middle of a breakdown and kept having panic attacks. In fact, he admitted he had signed up for Strictly against medical professionals' advice.

A woman makes an allegation and her mental health is questioned, what of 5he mental health of the accused?

I don’t know Galaxy, there have been similar issues with I’m a Celebrity, I don’t know about Dancing on Ice, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the same applied. I think it’s possible that the selection process is part of the issue, I’m not excusing bullying when I say that, but I do think people can have very different reactions to the same situation.

This is the third incident that I know of where the BBC has been accused of an abusive culture, might the problem be with the BBC rather than those making the accusations.

I wonder if there should be psychological profiling of would be contestants for Strictly, Dancing on Ice, I’m a Celebrity etc., where people are tested to their physical and mental endurance limits, because it does seem an issue where long term damage can be caused to those who have a more fragile sense of self worth?

For the nth time on this thread, I'm saying that abuse is not acceptable.

Feeling fragile like that if the father of your children walked out is understandable, I would have thought.

I'm sure she was in a better place but perhaps the abuse she received from her dance partner put her back to where she was. There is no excuse for a glittery entertainment programme to involve abuse behind the scenes.

It had all got very silly and OTT anyway.

She had suicidal thoughts and was in a bad place after her relationship with the father of her two children ended. I think that was about 7 years before she did Strictly.

Sorry, but what's that got to do with anything? I don't watch it, but I'm sure there have been other contestants who have had issues, and none of that would justify the kind of abuse she is claiming happened to her.

I have an unsettled mind !

In my experience of a very close family member, once suicidal thoughts are present, the mind becomes unsettled forever. However many years later.

If she did have suicidal thoughts when her marriage ended you
believe she was of unbalanced mind 7 years later ?
