The same with women and men being beaten up by their other half. I've said it myself, why do they put up with it.
It doesn't make sense to the outsider does it.

It is very true to real life of course you want to hear Belle tell all but she is confused as hell if you have someone you love constantly telling you that what you’re doing is wrong or you are mad or crazy eventually you become so confused you believe it yourself
She’s not on the outside of her mind looking in like we are, she’s in there with the clues all muddled up
Life is about the bad bits as well as the good bits

It’s believed that a woman on the whole takes about 12 beatings before they find the courage to leave an abusive situation you have to hit the bottom to find the courage to leave it’s NOT easy to do

I have stopped watching Emmerdale because of the Belle storyline.

After watching Friday's episode I'm in two minds whether to keep watching this storyline or give it a miss for a week.
It's really upsetting and frustrating. I want Belle to tell all.
I know it happens in real life and it's just horrible!

I think real life is hard enough in general, without watching it as well.

I think it's time the soaps were put out of their misery. Viewing figures suggest most people don't watch them now and I haven't heard them mentioned at work for over 5 years. I saw Emmerdale once 6 years ago and it was badly acted and looked like it was made in the dark.

Allsorts don’t you understand Belle doesn’t know the truth when you have the love of your life telling you you ve caused this, you’ve hurt him, you’ve made him unhappy or suicidal even though you are sure you haven’t the edges become so blurred you don’t know what the truth is you doubt yourself you blame yourself
We know because we re watching from the outside but she doesn’t because shes trapped within it

Why Fancythat ?

I agree with BlueBelle it's hard for others to understand how coercive control affects the victim and they believe they are at fault not the abuser.
I think it's been well handled all round.

I have stopped watching Emmerdale because of the Belle storyline.

Hate it when they drag the storyline out forever, I realise it is a difficult subject and pleased Emmerdale are covering it.
I haven't noticed any helplines for abuse in the credits.

Last nights episode Belle had lots of time to tell the truth but doesn’t.. Now her family think shes the abuser. It was her decision about the baby, who are they to judge her knowing her history and how gentle she is, that doesn't make sense.

The Belle story has been very realistic …unless you ve lived in an abusive relationship you wouldn’t understand the hold someone can have over you, how you pile the blame on yourself or your behaviour …you believe you caused their anger or upset… it was your fault. It’s very very hard to understand that they are abusing you, you soak up the blame, the anger and own it They confuse you with love/ care/ anger and thumps most abused women stay in the relationship very much longer than anyone on the outside would expect

Also after smashing up the cottage Tom suddenly managed to catch her up. He ought to be in the Olympics!
