Anyone seen/liked Two Doors Down? Saw a couple of this series recently and thought it quite funny.
Set in Scotland it features three households plus various friends and relatives as they gather in each others houses or gardens.Cringeworthy things are said😂

I think it’s awful, I watched a few episodes as it was recommended to me, but I found it to be full of unpleasant characters, with stupid story lines.

I actually laugh out loud when I view this… it’s very entertaining 🤣

No reason for anyone from Scotland to be offended by this comedy. Same as people from the Yorkshire dales aren't all like the characters in Emmerdale (thank goodness) and Londoners aren't all like those in Eastenders! It's fictional and makes good TV.

I love it and I'm Scottish

I love it. I didn’t find the final series quite as funny as the previous ones. I watched an episode last night from series 2. I think it was episode 4. Colin and Cathy invite his dad from his care home and throw a birthday party for him. The late Maurice Roëves plays the elderly dad.

Cathy is outrageously rude, inappropriate and very funny in this episode . She’s my favourite character. All the episodes are on BBC iplayer but not for sensitive ears 😀

Very funny but does get a bit crude and sweary

This Country is hilarious! So subtle.
Who could forget Still Game? The last episode was very emotional.

I like it too/ I know it is based on stereotypes but that's partly why it's funny. I'm not Scottish but we all know people like this in our families, mine happens to be English. 'This Country' is based on stereotypes too but is bloody funny

Im Scottish and love this. Normally I dont like comedies. I agree I found the early ones better than the layer ones. I also love/loved Still Game which iss another Scottish series.

I was catching up with some episodes that I had missed recently. Episode 4 of series 7, the one about Father's Day, is brilliant. I love the comedy, as do our Scottish friends. I remember Elaine C Smith as Rab Nesbit's wife and she was great in that too.

😆😆😆

Not only in Scotland!

Marilla Sun 28-Jul-24 14:10:45

Doodle dog, one of my favourite episodes too! Everyone in Scotland knows a Christine!
Do stay with Scots Squad, give it a few episodes. 👍

Doodledog Sun 28-Jul-24 13:13:13

Thanks for the recommendation. I will try that.

My favourite 2DD episode is the one where Christine goes to hospital. She is so awful it's hilarious.

Marilla Sun 28-Jul-24 12:53:13

I love Two Doors Down. Christine is wonderful. I didn’t enjoy the final series where Cathy returned. The previous series where Colin and Anne Marie came together as a couple was brilliant.

For those who enjoyed Two Doors Down, do try Scots Squad on BBC Scotland, available on iplayer. I think you will find yourself laughing out loud at the humour.

I had never heard of it but someone on GN recommended watching several old episodes before making a judgment which I did. I absolutely loved it and so did DH. We took to watching one episode wrapped in our throws before our evening meal in the depths of last winter. I see myself in Beth and one of my sisters in law in Christine. I am so sorry there will be no more episodes.

The characters are stereotypes..The language is modern urban west Scottish and is skillfully used to illustrate the stereotypes.
Situation comedies are funny because they are stereotypes of ourselves.

Oreo Sun 28-Jul-24 09:58:04

I agree Doodledog it just happens to be Scottish but equally could be set in Wales, NI or England.
It’s not meant to be taken seriously it’s a comedy.Having said that I’ve now and then come across people who say exactly what they think with no filters.😆

Doodledog Sun 28-Jul-24 02:57:49

I don’t think it’s meant to suggest that Scottish people are like the characters - it’s set in Scotland, rather than being about the Scots. It’s about people in general rather than Scottish people in particular, and it’s very funny, although I agree that the earlier series are better.

Easy to watch better than most of the stuff on especially soaps.

Lins872 Sun 28-Jul-24 00:25:59

It’s very tongue in cheek easy to watch I am Scottish and love it
