Anyone seen/liked Two Doors Down? Saw a couple of this series recently and thought it quite funny.
Set in Scotland it features three households plus various friends and relatives as they gather in each others houses or gardens.Cringeworthy things are said😂

I love Gavin and Stacey too. If you like that humour you should try Stella - also written and starring Ruth Jones in a very different role.

The Americans dont seem to understand sarcasm i think so a lot of stuff goes over their heads if someone uses it- like Chandler Bings character in 'Friends'- he used sarcasm a lot but the others did not seem to get it?But for us British viewers it was wonderful- Matthew Perry had some of the the best lines.Such a sad loss to the world, he was very funny.

LovelyLady- you're wrong about the Welsh- have you watched Gavin& Stacey? Give it a try before the the christmas finale & see what you think. I had never bothered watching it before the last 'comeback' in 2019- but there had been so much hype about it and i had been really ill so thought i'd watch as i didnt want to bother with anything too taxing- and was so involved in the charactrs etc i wanted to see what i had been missing when it was on originally. So found it on iplayer.Really amusing and the characters all add something to the storylines.I might be rewatching all again before the finale 😁

*Elaine C Smith i mean.😅

Nannan2 Wed 31-Jul-24 03:25:47

Aw yes, thats where i knew her face from!- as Rab's wife.

I dont like the ones with the return of Cathy- i think shes very overbearing and tends to bully the rest of them. Why could'nt they have just let Colin be happy with his new love Anne-marie?Shame.

Rewatched some of these the other night, strangely enough- the christmas episode where they all meet up in town christmas shopping and christine is treating them all to show her appreciation is lovely- and she gets her 'reward' for being nice, you could say, at the end.It makes you want to cheer for her.. Lovely and very touching- and what christmas is all about,The friendship, the unity, the love.

Love 2 doors down, reminds me a bit of The Royale family,
Also love This Country. Has anyone watched the Irish comedy-The young Pretenders? I also think it is very funny, a bit crude/rude and sweary and a bit bizarre

I’m Scottish and I love it.
I’ve seen Elaine C Smith doing stand up and she is brilliant.
Not heard of This country.

This Country is also really good, set in a small town in the Cotswolds about the lives of two young cousins as they rootle around town bored and looking for fun.Kerry is particularly awful but you feel sorry for her as she idolises her deadbeat Father who now has a new young family and cares nothing for his teenage daughter. The cousins rely on the vicar and he’s a Father figure for them both, but mainly they want him to give them lifts here there and everywhere.😄
The programme pretends to be a documentary about rural life for young people. It’s a bit like Last Of The Summer Wine in that the cousins kick around town bored and with little money, and nothing much happens.
Watch it and see if you like it.

Still Game is certainly on the top list as is Rab C and 2 Doors Down.
The Scots certainly have the skill of laughing at themselves. The English don’t and the Americans just don’t seem to understand self humour. The Irish are a close second to the Scottish writers with Mrs Browns Boys and the Priests on Craggy Island (Sorry can’t recall the programme title)
The Welsh just don’t have the self deprecation skill and there’s no humour - just predictable sketches.
The Scot’s have my admiration xx

Can’t agree that English people can’t laugh at themselves they must be the most self deprecating people in the world.
Being a Scottish programme doesn’t matter, it could be set anywhere in Britain.
I watched episode one and two on BBC Iplayer of series 1 last night, very funny where Christine and her daughter have the ceiling cave in and spend the night at the neighbours house.
Comedy is subjective, so some will enjoy this and some won’t.

Comedy is always so subjective that you'll get an array of comments. We've seen a few mins of 2DD here and there, and it seemed at best mildly amusing, and otherwise about as funny as root canal work without anaesthetic

That’s a strong opinion to have about a programme you’ve only watched for a couple of mins. I suspect maybe you’re a secret fan 😆

I thought that comedy was hilarious should be more like it on tv👏😂

Love both series, especially Still Game. I agree@Marilla, the last episode was very emotional.

My dh got his cousin in California onto Still Game, Scots Squad and even Gary Tank Commander. It’s now regular event in Oakland that a few of his friends watch them together so they can understand Scottish people when they visit here.

An amazing series so funny with brilliant actors. The humour is very dark and can be risqué so toughen and remember it’s a TV program

Sara1954 Tue 30-Jul-24 14:02:43

Maybe it’s an English/Scottish thing, I didn’t find it at all funny, I felt a bit sorry for the main couple , I would definitely be moving.

LovelyLady Tue 30-Jul-24 13:39:58

Love the relaxed neighbourhood. I have family similar to these characters.
Their neighbourhood is friendly and all are kind in their own way. I England most neighbours are strangers and don’t talk. Give me neighbours like this programme. Life would never be dull. Thank you for those who write the programmes who must be keen people watchers and even mind readers. Love love love it. I also like RabC and anything from Glasgow. Their humour is phenomenal xx

Glenfinnan Tue 30-Jul-24 13:27:57

Makes me laugh!

She777 Tue 30-Jul-24 13:09:04

I love it. I think we have all had a neighbour who is a bit pushy and a friend who thinks it’s ok to be mean.

Livingthedream Tue 30-Jul-24 13:00:07

Just found it- its very tame, with stereotyped cast members.
There's a Netflix series called Boomers of a similar ilk. I find that funnier, but I just find it weird that they assume all people over a certain age living such banal lives!

mamagill Tue 30-Jul-24 12:47:38

My cousin got me into this a couple of years ago, I absolutely bloody love it
